Halloween Costume Contest 2014

Elizabethan Costume

Elizabethan Dress in printed French silk

I made this for the local Rennaisance Fair last month and wore it for Halloween also. The main body of the dress is a printed French silk with an underskirt of embroidered Fleur-de-lis silk. I am most proud of the trim which I created from 3 different styles accented with seed beads. The sleeves are made of wool crepe, lined with cotton batiste and have a row of metal beads and freshwater pearls down each cuff. The bodice is lined with cotton sateen, stiff interfacing and a layer of hair canvas which encases the 15 steel bones inside for support. This has been one of the most challenging and fun things I have made my 50 years of sewing!
