This costume was made for my cat & was almost all sewn by hand.

I found some material that was very similar to tweed to use for the head, body & tail. I bought some white fabric to use on the face, feet butt & tail, also felt squares of black & red for the eyes, mouth, nostrils, butt & about 12 inches of red ribbon for the neck. I made the legs separate from the body & used elastic like suspenders to keep them up & to give her more comfort and I used stuffing/batting to make the sock monkeys head above her head & used snaps to keep head to neck & tail onto the body.
