Halloween Costume Contest 2014

Anne Tytherleigh “Sunflower Tutu”

Sunflower Tutu

“Sunflower”

Using a pattern I created myself, I wanted to experiment with non-traditional fabrics and mediums to create a classical tutu. I have used faux leather and suede, foiled denim, plastic sheeting and medium weight buckram to create this tutu.  My inspiration for the design was simply – A Sunflower!

The tutu base is made up of alternating layers of tulle and net with dagged edges. The top layer has been very densely double hand pleated and the remaining layers have been finger pleated at the machine. The tutu layers have been hand tacked with waxed embroidery floss. The petals have been formed by bonding disposable plastic table cloth (from party supplier) to buckram. They were then shaped and some gold art finishing applied at base.
