I sometimes have trouble getting pleats on skirts (or pants) equally deep and evenly spaced from the center of the garment. I solved the problem by notching the pleat positions on both the skirt and the waistband. After notching the skit fabric, I fold the skirt pattern piece along the pleat lines and, aligning the center fronts, lay it next to the cutout fabric waistband. I notch the waistband at the outer edge of each pleat, then I pin or baste the skirt to the waistband, matching the notches to space and balance the pleats.
