Make an Airy Rouleau Embellishment

Threads magazine - 177 - Feb./Mar. 2015

This article from Threads #177 (February/March 2015) by Jane Conlon is an in-depth look at the techniques and applications of fagoted rouleau.

A delicate appliqué or edging of fagoted rouleau makes any garment special. Rouleau (pronounced “roo-low”) is made from bias-cut fabric tubes shaped into curved designs. Decorative stitches called fagoting enhance this detail and secure its shape. Use fagoted rouleau to edge a neckline or hem; as an inset, overlay, or appliqué; as a border trim on any part of a garment; or to make an entire garment. While fagoted rouleau is perfect for subtly adorning special occasion garments, don’t overlook its potential to star in an everyday wardrobe. It’s an elegant way to add detail and interest to any piece of clothing.
