I recently made this silk wool and silk charmeuse dress using Burdastyle’s #157 05/2011 dress pattern.
I used champagne silk wool for the top (right) crossover piece and back pieces. And I used champagne silk charmeuse for the front skirt pieces and bottom (left) bodice crossover.
At first, I had the entire dress lined with ivory silk charmeuse, but I ended up removing the skirt lining. (I didn’t like how the skirt looked with lining and the lining in the skirt created too much bulk.)
Tips and Tricks: The hem and edges of the cascade draping are finished by a rolled hem by hand. I did this by (1) rolling the edges twice, (2) pinning edges after rolling, and (3) hand stitch the edges with a slip stitch. The trick is to first serge the skirt edges and hem. Then, use that serged edge as your (measuring) guide when rolling the edge.
I used non-fusible taping for the zipper seams.
I will eventually add Ukrainian embroidery trim to the the top crossover when I’m finished embroidering the trim!
