When the doctors in “M*A*S*H” weren’t in scrubs, they often wore Hawaiian shirts. One day, these images merged: I saw in my mind’s eye a scrub shirt made of Hawaiian fabric, with classic 1″ wide facings on the neck opening back as well as front. When I hired a dressmaker to make me some then, no patterns were available for it. There still aren’t. I used a seam ripper on some inexpensive store-bought scrubs to learn the simplest way to make the front facing [no hand sewing is needed], and figured out how to make the back facing to match. Much measurement and calculation is required to get the fit and width desired. I merged my scrub shirt neckband and facing patterns with a simple V-necked pullover pattern for woven fabric, also adjusting the body and sleeve length to suit. Others may want to apply this to different V-neck top patterns. Now I can make classic scrub shirts from any fabric I want.
