16th century Florentine Gown
comments (0) January 29th, 2009 in sewing, design, garment construction, reader's closetA recreation of a gown worn in Florence Italy from 1500-1525 (approx). I used five yards of orange linen and several yards of black bias binding for the trim. The bodice interior is made of one layer of thin wool and two layers of linen canvas with hemp cord run into channels every one inch for bust support. The skirt is made of two straight panels and two side gores and is box pleated every three inches into the bodice. The entire gown slips over the head and is laced with cord through eyelets, which are really grommeted and covered in matching embroidery floss.
