~Yearning for Yo-yo’s~

This project was sewn entirely out of a sheet I purchased at Goodwill.  I was able to get an apron, chef's hat, kerchief, pillowcase, potato bag and a yo-yo doily out of one sheet!  My students loved it...

Yo-yo’s are a special project for me!  I began when I purchased a set of vintage aprons from Ebay!  Much to my dismay, they were full of burns and tears.  Much to busy to fuss with the return, I washed the dejected set and threw them in a heap in my room!

Determined to do something with them, I ran across a pillow that had been made from vintage aprons into a yo-yo design.  I was so excited but didn’t have a clue on how to make the curious looking little circles.  I finally got relief when my pastor’s wife heard my plight and explained that those were called yo-yo’s and that ‘they are as old as she was!”

I ‘googled’ up my new information and the rest is history!  I have been using up scraps of fabric every since and creating fun things for myself, friends and family.  They have worked their way into my curriculum at school and ALL sewing students leave my classroom with yo-yo creations of their own!
