If you're a felt fanatic, love sewing with felted fabrics, or just want to feast your eyes on the amazing tactile and textural qualities and experience the versatillity of felt, then come and see the Cooper-Hewitt National Design Museum's latest exhibit, Fashioning Felt on display now through September 7th, 2009. Felting, the ancient technique made by matting together wool fibers through humidity and friction, is in the spotlight again with more and more designers taking to its textile creation. This innovative exhibit showcases felted garments, jewelry, furniture, architecture, home furnishings, and more, and takes you on a historic  journey of felt--from traditional felting techniques to modern contemporary designs. kayzie writes: This is beautiful. I've been looking for an idea for a picture (thinking of using a piece of fabric), for my wall, and this has the colors I would like. Thinking of something large, square. Wonder if I could attach it to a canvas. Any designers out there with suggestions about mounting such ??

There was a demonstration of the installation of a felt Yurt. The artist showed step by step, how she created her piece. Looks like a great show. Posted: 3:47 pm on March 25th
EllenLumpkinBrown writes: I will certainly go to this exhibit! I am lucky to live in the New York area so the jump to Manhattan is easy!! Felt is my favorite textile -- I absolutely love it. I use fine, 100 percent wool felt to sew my dolls. It is an awesome medium. I really can't wait to see this exhibit! I'll post my reaction. Check out my blogs on Threads, Craftstylish, and www.TheDollLoft.squarespace.com to see my dolls made with felt. Also, my new book, Doll Fashionistas is all about sewing these dolls and modern, fashion-forward wardrobes for them to wear.
Thanks so much for the heads up about this!
