An opportunity to teach children to follow directions and sew aprons

While making the apron in the slide show, so children could see an example, I mull over our “great recession.” I thought of those Grandmothers wearing their aprons through “The Great Depression,” through WWI and WWII, through their children’s illness' like Polio, sickness that we do not know about in our life time. Brave mother’s in their aprons, creating a home for their families despite what the world brought to their door step. Recession or not, I am grateful to be a mother in this time of our country’s history.
Even through our “great recession” we have an excellent opportunity to teach our children to follow directions and give a gift from the heart. With adult’s guidance children can learn to make simple aprons. What a wonderful way to spend a long hot afternoon, reading and following directions to create an apron with your special child. Wouldn’t it be a lovely idea for children to start now, making aprons to give as Christmas gifts? Surely, this handmade gift would be loved by Grandparents, Aunts and Dear Friends.
