Pink Linen Jacket and Capris
comments (1) July 31st, 2009 in fabric, reader's closetWhen a small fabric store was going out of business I bought this piece of linen for $1.00. It was still on the bolt. I prewashed the fabric to soften, and to make it more economical to care for- no dry cleaning for me. I already had Simplicity #5463, so I made the following modifications.
On the jacket-
I shortened sleeves to ¾ length and made a facing for a turn back cuff. I left off top button to make a more casual look, but used a darker colored button for more contrast- they were in my stash. I trimmed and finished all seam allowances and put two rows of top stitching on the front facings, yoke, collar, sleeves, and bottom to enclose seams and control fraying.
Pants- I adjusted pattern to fit and then cut the legs off to make Capri length pants. I narrowed the leg openings and made a 4’ x 1½ “ placket in order to add buttonholes and button trim.
While the top has the smaller buttons down the front, the larger matching buttons were used down the back. One of each size was used on each leg opening.
