The Cat Linen Dress
comments (1) August 7th, 2009 in sewing, garment construction, fabric, embroidery, reader's closetI made this for my daughter's second birthday. I wanted to go for the linen look that they show in the Japanese sewing books. I bought all the fabric from JoAnn's fabric store. I made my own pattern and tweaked it to fit her. It's a fairly simple design. I made the top chest band first. Then I cut a larger piece for front bottom so I could make pleats, and a smaller piece for the back. It ended up being too big, so I sewed it in the back (hence the lines in the back photo). I then added the two large straps. The buttons are just sewn on. I used the cat and umbrella embroidery/applique pattern from http://babalisme.blogspot.com/2009/07/tabby-cat-embroidery-pattern.html. I added the 2's in with the rain (since she was turning two) and also the bottom grass and puddles. She loves cats and numbers, so she will always point at it when she wears this.
