Project Runway Episode 3
comments (4) September 4th, 2009 in designThis episode was all about teamwork. Last night’s project took us to the beach for “fun and fashionable surf wear” with a twelfth-hour additional avant-garde design requested as a companion for the first water wear assignment. Each assigned team leader picked one teammate and they were off and running.
Most of the teams appeared to work cooperatively, but two had problems. Leader, Qristyl chose Epperson, and they didn’t seem to agree on anything. She fought him constantly by dismissing every suggestion he made. Their bickering continued through the judges’ question session. Ultimately, their designs were in the bottom two.
Then, consider team Mitchell and Ra’mon. Remember Mitchell from last week with the fly-away shorts? He was the assigned leader and picked Ra’mon saying, “I wanted to work with someone who could carry me on this challenge.” It looks like our boy Mitchell just donned his slacker clothing. Thankfully the judges saw right through his game and (it’s about time!) sent Mitchell home. But first the team was declared the winning designers. This is high drama for Project Runway, the winner and the loser on the same two man team.
Even the Models of the Runway showed how teamwork influences their careers, with the model/designer team, and the intimacy of friends in the group.
My favorite garment this week was Johnny and Irina’s white dress with the brown mesh cover and macramé back.

My dreaded garment was the lace chaps Nicholas designed. I thought the lace was a great idea, but when Nicholas ran short on fabric he shouldn’t have taken it out of the inseam. What would you have done?

The lace piece, I could do without. I understood it but they knew that it was not goning to make the grade. The team was so supportive of each other, that was refreshing to see.

I don't know who won -- I don't have much occasion for surf-wear. Ra'mon looked so tired at the end, I'm glad he won.
Good-bye Mitchell.
