Wristlet Purses using recycled fabrics
comments (4) September 23rd, 2009 in sewing, embellishments, reader's closetThere are many online tutorials for these little wristlet purses, but my first attempts did not end in success. The zippers were the problem. They buckled at the ends on each side of the wristlets. It took several prototypes before I came up with a zipper construction that worked out. I suggest finding a good book with purse patterns and following their instructions. I wish I had started there rather than redesigning a poorly done "free" pattern.
As for fabrics, I wanted to try my hand at recycling or repurposing some old things in my fabric stash. The horse wristlet is 60s bark cloth drapes that I washed up. I fussy cut the horse images for the purse front and back, and then embellished with yoyos. The other denim purse is from a pair of worn out jeans. The wildflower fabric is fussy cut and appliqued to the front and is also used as the lining. I thought the jean's pocket would be cute way to store a cell phone.
Pattern or design used: Various online tutorials for wristlets, used several in making these
