Rolling Stone Quilt, Jill Reid Pattern

Hello!  Newly finished quilt for my DH.  We photographed at Sundance Ski Area to capture a rustic background to go with the vintage look of this quilt. The quilt is pieced in 100% cotton reproduction fabrics.  The pattern comes from the Windham Fabric website and is free.  The pattern designer is Jill Reid, whose designs I admire very much.  Due to not having all the same fabrics, I made some substitutions and didn't bother with fussy cutting the sashings - just not enough fabric to do that. Quilt surface was quilted via a longarm quilter, and I couldn't be more happy with her choices in the stitching designs. I will try to get some close ups to add to my post. She did wreath designs in each rolling stone block and feathers along sashings and borders. We chose taupe colored thread that picked up the binding's color.

I used a new technique for the binding that lets you machine sew the entire binding and maintain a finished look on the back of the quilt. The technique came from a workshop I attended a few months back, and this is first time I have used on a full size quilt.  It took a few hours to attach for this throw size quilt, but happy with the result.  However, I have to admit that I prefer the look of bindings sewed by hand.  Sometimes the old ways are the best.

One caution, the pattern directions are not all that comprehensive.  They are an outline rather than a step by step tutorial, so I recommend the project to an intermediate level quilter who has good working knowledge of the quilting process. Many of the fabric manufacturers are including projects for each of their fabric lines.  It is a really good idea to read through the pattern instructions and see if they make sense to you.
