My granddaughter, Shoshana, and my husband, Stan, following their interest in music, started watching musicals with 50's themes. Shoshana decided she just had to have a poodle skirt for Halloween 2008 and this was the result. I made the skirt and vest from a heavy-weight polyester-cotton blend, The vest was lined with a colorful cotton so it became reversible and wearable with other clothes in her wardrobe. The poodle itself was my first attempt at free-motion applique (having only ever used my Janome 10001 built-in machine embroidery features previously). The record was quite a challenge and after much debate, sacrificed one of my grandmother's old folk dance records. With directions I found on the 'net, I found out how to turn an old sock into a bun holder and made up her hair with the record sandwhiched between the bun and her head.
