Re: Project Runway All Stars: "When I Get My Dress in Lights"

I like Kenley. She isn't as adventurous as Mondo (my favorite), but she has never sent anything down the runway that wasn't well made, well fitted, cute, challenge-appropriate, and true to herself.

I'd love to see a final three of Kenley, Austin and Mondo. They all have integrity, along with their varying levels of design skill.

Not a fan of Michael. His stuff always looks sloppy and frumpy to me.

Re: Project Runway All Stars: "Puttin' on the Glitz"

Mondo's was theatrical and summed up the characteristics of the challenge the best. But I agree, Mondo seems to be a little scattered this time out. (Still love him though.)

Sews4fun, I would think there was something to the theory of this Allstars show as a way of making up for the Gretchen win--if it hadn't been for all of last season. But now, will they do another Allstars season to make up for the wretched, wretched Anya win?

We watched last season to give the show a chance to redeem itself after Mondogate, but Anyagate was vastly worse. It was like watching a fixed game show.

(I can't believe how annoyed I still am about a lousy TV show--but I am!)

Re: Project Runway 9: "Finale - Part 1"

P.S. I also think Laura Kathleen's collection is fantastic! Haven't pre-peeked at any of the others, but I did look at hers and it is quite astonishing. I'd wear any and all of it if I were less, er, lush-figured, and if I ever had anywhere to go that wasn't a horse barn. :-P

Perhaps the judges should have taken some of their limited supply of love from the Anya category and given it to Laura, who has some genuine talent that they did not, apparently, appreciate and/or support.

Re: Project Runway 9: "Finale - Part 1"

I love Viktor's work. I hope he wins. The outfit he made in the "girlfriend" challenge (the one Josh won simply by toning himself down and making an LBD) was my favorite thing all season, and so perfect for his client.

Viktor is not an over-the-top designer; instead of relying on gimmicks and flash, he has great taste, inventive yet solid ideas, and fabulous skills. Plus, he has never (to my memory) lost his personal dignity, which matters to me. Go Viktor!

Re: Project Runway 9: "Finale Challenge"

I only started watching PR last season (the "Gretchengate" season). I find the show very frustrating because it is SO unfairly judged. One designer gets sent home for doing exactly what the very next designer wins for. We see this again and again and again. I certainly embrace differences of taste, but NOT blatant unfairness.

This is why the fawning over Anya galls me so much--to the point that I can no longer enjoy anything she does; it's too tainted with the judges' favoritism.

Furthermore, if she gets extra credit for NOT (allegedly) having known how to sew for very long, then how can anyone with actual design and construction chops ever win?

I don't like the tacky focus on contestants carping at each other, but it is really the unfair judging that takes away from the show for me. Perhaps it would help if they had to acknowledge when they are totally reversing themselves, and explain why.

Re: What's your state garment?

That's the great thing about the web--tons of room for everything, easy to skip what doesn't interest you. This project is funny and cool. I might have suggested that the dress for my home state of Minnesota be made out of snowflakes (we have an infinite supply this winter), but of course then it could only be worn in a freezer. ;-)

Re: Create Intricate Fabric With Pin Weaving

I tried this, but instead of using a homemade cardboard base, I used a "Cushioned Quilter's Square 'n' Blocker" from June Tailor that I had lying around anyway. (This is just a big padded rectangle covered with canvas that is ruled in various ways to help line up quilt blocks and such.) I just lay the interfacing right on it and then set up the pins and pearl cotton as described. The give in the padding was really handy for the edges, where my weaving got a little snug. In fact, it was indispensable. A fun project that can take as much or as little time as you want, and the results are pretty cool.
