Profile for FionaC - Threads

Sydney, AU

I have only recently returned to dressmaking, since my early 20's when patterns fitted perfectly without alteration. Things have certainly changed in the last 30 years, and I'm not just talking about technology. I recently completed a Palmer Pletsch fitting course which has helped significantly. Since completing the course I have made about six pairs of pants/trousers, each one better than the last. Unlike in my 20's when I just wanted the results "now", I'm enjoying the process of sewing this time, the creative process and improving my techniques and finishing, with very pleasing results. One thing I do miss is having my mum around to support my efforts - for those times when I'm not sure just how to approach a tricky spot. I'm hoping that joining your community may provide me with "virtual sewing 'mum's" where questions can be posed and advice obtained from those who have "come before me".

Re: DVD GIVEAWAY: Industry Insider Techniques with Louise Cutting Volumes 1-4

I LOVE the way Louise Cutting teaches. Her methods are straight forward, they are easy to understand (especially with the video)and she takes all the angst out of trying new procedures. Since watching her session on uneven mitred corners I ALWAYS use them on my shirts and jackets. As a result my corners are much cleaner and the garments look very professional (to my unbiased eye at least!!!).

I can't wait to try the resizing technique for tops which I recently watched "inside". I would love to own all 4 DVD's so I can incorporate even more of Louise's wisdom into my sewing.

Thank you Louise!

Re: Do You Have a Sewing Question for Threads?

Ladies, I am sewing trousers (Burda 7723) and am attempting to convert the waist pleats to darts - I have overlayed another pants pattern (with darts) over my Burda pattern and traced the length of the darts from that pattern and taken in the width of the origin pleat into my dart - but the resulting darts are not sitting as well as I would hope - any suggestions to improve my outcome?
