Re: BOOK GIVEAWAY: "Couture Sewing Techniques" by Claire B. Shaeffer

Not only would this be a fabulous addition to my own sewing library, but I would share this copy with my local 4-H county extension office as part of their lending library for all those 4-H youth who want to take their sewing to the next level.

Re: Magazine Giveaway: SewStylish Summer 2011

trying to get ideas for my daughter to enter in 4-H county fair this summer. we can always use inspiration!!

Re: Summer Dress Patterns

I 2nd that Reetah. I have a daughter who has pretty much given up on sewing because she now has a VERY ample bustline. All the cute styles she likes are way too complicated to do a complex bust adjustment.

I have repeatedly asked for directions for help from Threads, but not heard anything. :-(

Re: Simple Bust Enlargement

again, this is for a "tiny bust" enlargement. I have a daughter who is a 32DDD (36 over bust, 28 underbust and a retail size 4), and it has vitually stopped her 4-H sewing because all the dresses she likes have asymmetrical, pleats and/or empire bustlines. there is NO WHERE to get help to help her fit bodices to her bust. (ironically, she is built very Dolly Parton)

please, please do a series on how you alter some of the newest fun dress and jacket styles to get fuller busts into today's patterns. kids are not into princess seams.

HELP!!!!!!

Re: MAGAZINE GIVEAWAY: "Designer Techniques"

My favorite designer is the later Perry Ellis . . . he was a fresh breath of air when it came to re-interpreting "the classics" in new and fun fabrics. What is even more sad is that he died of a disease that was persecuted and ridiculed. And now it is controllable and curable . . . what an incredible loss when just a few years later he most likely would have survived and lived to create a bigger impact on your fashion industry.

Re: Summer Sewing

I'd like to know how you get 1241 around a very full bust . . .

Re: The Other Side of Couture!

very pretty, but I am confused. is this person actually making the jacket or is she having someone make it for her?
and where does the pattern come from?

Re: Create an Illusion Mesh Edge

this is called "stretch illusion mesh" and is a knit fabric that is usually found in the swimwear or evening fabric sections of fabric stores. it comes in solids and prints and was made most popular by Vera Wang on her modern bridal gowns--and, most notoriously on the white & bright yellow skating dresses worn by Nancy Kerrigan when she competed in the Olympics against Tonya Harding.

what is fun to stitch it on wrong sides together, serge, and top-stitch down for a contrast/cover-stitch trim. primitive as it may seem, it is used on stretch silk velvets for t-shirts and dresses in fancy stores like Nordstrom and Saks.

not all stretch illusion meshes have the same stretch, so give it a tug before you buy.

Re: How to Create a Lapped and Embellished Seam

o.k., let's be real here . . . nice technique, but not nearly enough information listed here for people to learn how to make it happen.

can we expect more, or are we going to be left hanging?
:-(

Re: Giveaway: Simplicity Bias Tape Maker

What a great toy--I can think of a gazillion ways to use it!!
