Re: Mary McFadden Exhibit in D.C.
Mary Mcfadden is by far one of my favorite designers. I have also been heavily influenced by other cultures in what I sew,and have, since the 1970's, followed her incredible designs. Gorgeous!

This is very fascinating. The American Museum of Natural History is such a great museum, I'll have to read more about this weaving and about Madagascar.

I remember my summer as a student Intern at The American Museum of Natural History and how incredibly fascinating it was to be there every day. I've been interested in the study of textiles for quite a long time, especially with my archaeological background, this weaving definetly sparks my interest in studying not only plant and man-made fibers, but how we can use other natural resources for fabric. So great that you are featuring this!

I'm inspired by pattern, texture and colors from past decades of fashion. The embellishments on fabrics from the 1920's, whether it is on a coat, dress or hat, are currently on my sewing list to use on my own designs. Something with a history, a connection to another culture, or what I have seen in a museum is always reflected in what I make. Whether it is beading, using soutache, many, many pin-tucks, printing my own fabric, or anything to give the fabric color or texture, I give it a try.
