Re: Project Runway All Stars: "Good Taste Tastes Good"
OK, so Michael wins with yet another over-designed nightgown. I'm not impressed at all - we all know he can drape a caftan - I can drape a caftan. I loved the styling on Anthony's top although the back was weird) but the color and folds were perfect. I also liked Austin's dress. Simple, elegant, understated, but with style. Rami's was interesting, but a little too much. I agree with everyone that Kara should have been the one to go - April's dress was at least interesting, how great can you really sew something in 6 hours????? And they are working with specialty fabric...I think they are a bit too tough on them given the severe constraints. I am proud of all of them for getting out there. And yes, Kenley's stuff is predictable, but this last dress was really cute! I'd wear it in a heartbeat if I had the body.

I'm sorry - I thought this challenge was a real hoot!!! I love Miss Piggy and I thought some of the designs were really good, and some were really bad. Not sure if Gordana should have been the one to go home this week, at least her dress was sort of pink. I was surprised when Michael won, I thought Rami would. But as someone previously mentioned, the dress was suppose to be for evening....

Re: Project Runway All Stars: "A Night at the Opera"
I am totally loving this All Star PR. I was glad to see the spit lady go, not sure what she was doing there.....Sadly, Sweet P just didn't get into the groove soon enough, but there are some really talented folks remaining. I loved the challenge, and the dresses were fab! Can't wait for this week's show!!! I hope they keep the challenges interesting and not so difficult that the contestants actually make some great garments....

I was so excited to see the all PR Allstars! I absolutely love this show, no matter what. I think I will miss Tim Gunn the most, I do love his fun spirit and matter-of-factness. I do think it's great that they have new judges, so no preconceived notions about who can do what there....makes the playing field more fair. I always loved Mondo and thought April did really well. Let's face it, most of these designers were in the top 5 or higher, so we have a great group. Don't bet on not seeing a bunch of drama - the designers are still designers after all.....and some of the most dramatic. Wonder why Wendy Pepper isn't there.....Ha! glad she's not!!!

Well, it's over. And glad of it!!! I was very disappointed in the show this season. Is it the designers that are lacking or the judges choice of who they bring on the show? I missed seeing the audition phase, which would tell a lot about the season up front. OK, so they set it up for Anya to be the winner in the beginning.....oh, she's only been sewing for 4 months, and they let her slide on it almost every runway show. When did correct construction techniques NOT become an issue? And I'm sorry, but I think the folks who have put their heart and soul into something most of their lives, deserve a real chance, as opposed to someone who just decided on a whim they were going to try designing clothes. With the exception of that last challenge before the final, she gave us the same thing every time. I'm really frustrated, because I love the concept of the show and it used to be SO GOOD!!!! I loved Kim's collection and she listened to the judges and I thought she should have won. Oh well...such is life.
posted: 2:35 pm on October 28thOn the up side - watched Project Accessory and that was really fun! Just like the old days of Project Runway!
Re: Project Runway 9: "Finale - Part 1"
Well, well, I can't say I was surprised by the decision to leave Anya in the competition - even tho she deserved to go home. I did like the batik dress, but let's be real, you can buy that in any boutique! That said, I think she has shown some great pieces. Her ability to think outside the box has been helpful - too bad she has no clue how to sew them up!
posted: 3:55 pm on October 25thI was disappointed that Kimberly put out that icky pink skirt, I have to wonder what she was thinking!!! She better lose it for the show.
Viktor is the clear winner here. Josh drives me crazy and my boyfriend makes me mute the TV when he comes on! Glad this season is almost over. Looking forward to the Accessories show and the All Stars. Hopefully we will get to see some real design.
Re: Project Runway 9: "Image is Everything"
What an interesting challenge! It is about time that Victor won....his jacket was out of this world. My favorite all-over look, however, was Laura. Loved Bert's pants, and Josh's pieces were good, although I don't think the vest went with it all, it sort of muddled the look. Should have been a solid rather and stripe. And again, what were they thinking? Anya's outfit sucked - worse than Oliver's....way worse. She continues to get babied because she just learned out to sew. I was really looking forward to her look, but boy - it was awful. At least Oliver's look was wearable...sort of.
posted: 4:27 pm on September 27thI am not sure why they chose to do teams on this one, it really served no purpose...???? All in all it was a great challenge and fun to watch.
Re: Project Runway 9: "What Women Want"
Much better challenge this week, and we finally get to see which designers are actually creative. Victor should have won that challenge hands down - his outfit was creative and innovative, his use of color was devine, and the woman looked like a major Diva in it. It suited her to a t....that said, I did like Josh's dress, it's him I have the problem with. If you are going to be flamboyant, do it with style like Austin!!! I felt sort of sorry for Bryce, if he'd have used the first dress and just taken that horrible gray thing out, he would have been fine, put in some nice contrast piping and add a big of flair he'd have done fine. He just folded under the pressure. If you really think about it, there aren't a whole lot of people in this world that could create something in 1 or 2 days, let alone from scratch, and make it wearable. I admire all of them for getting out there and trying it. I know that I am way to much of an introvert to ever even try it. I too missed the project accessory - but am going to go find it!!!

I really enjoyed this challenge and thought there were at least some fun outfits and a few of them showed that they actually could do something. I thought the 2 that were really avant garde were Kimberly and Anya, the rest, not so much. I thought raving over a painted neoprene circle skirt was pretty wimpy of the judges....Of the top 3, Laura's was the best. Anthony Ryan's rag was just a bunch of pieces of sliced up georgette, and they were literally coming apart....he didn't finish anything! Why is it OK for one and not another. I remember (I think it was Kevin) getting eliminated for not hemming a red prom dress, and you could barely tell, this thing was ragged, and just as unfinished as Oliver's! I just wish they would hold the same standard up to everyone - that would truly make it fair. And let me just add that I split a gut when Kors made the Tele-Tubby comment! I mean really Bert, who would want to run around in those pants, with puff-balls stuck on them????

I haven't done this type of sewing in many years, but I took a class in college from Catherine Stephenson and LOVED it! I have a couple of Claire's books and have been to one of her 1/2 day seminars and she is fabulous! Anyone would be proud to own this book! Keep up the great work Threads! Love, love love your magazine - look forward to it the most of all my subscriptions.
posted: 12:18 pm on September 1stRe: Project Runway 9: "Off the Track"
Well said all of you. Given the challenges this set of designers has had to deal with so far, I don't think we really know if any of them are any good yet. There have been a couple of really cute things - not necessarily the winners either! But mostly I agree with GeoSews, sows ears. There have been other seasons that have had difficult challenges as well, and I saw some really cool things come from it. I'm engaged, because I love the concept, my boyfriend says he is going to refuse to watch it if he can't be in control of the clicker and fast forward through the drama, which I admit is ridiculous. Dislike Bert & Josh they are both negative and arrogant. My faves so far are Laura and Kimberly. But let's stop the teams, and give these designers a real challenge, so they can show us their stuff! And quit babying Anya - I'm not sympathetic to her just learning how to sew....she took on the challenge, now make her step up!

Of the top 3 I liked the aquarium rock outfit the best. Oliver was a snooze-fest! The birdseed was fun and attractive. All I can say is that those guys are lucky WE aren't the judges!

Soli -I just read your comments, and you are way too upset about this. It is a TV show - if it boils your blood maybe you should take the initiative and turn the TV off and find something more constructive to do. Nobody is "forcing" you to watch.
posted: 5:20 pm on October 19thI absolutely LOVE Project Runway - it is my favorite show hands down, drama and all. This year we did not have the really good designers like we usually do, and I think the judges were going for drama more than the real deal, i.e. when April won the resortwear challenge???? But the show is interesting and I love the challenges and often do sketches and wish I had the time to try some of them myself. Sewing is my first love and anything and everything that has to do with it is enjoyable to me.
This last episode was a little disappointing, I always like when they wow us, and why is everything BLACK??? I really was looking forward to seeing some color. Maybe there will be another Uli next season, somebody has to put some color back in the show!
As for who should go to Fashion week, Mondo, Andy & Gretchen. I was a little taken aback with Michael not knowing what kind of fabric he used. Is there really anyone with any clue that doesn't know the difference between knit and woven????? I agree with Anza, that they kept Michael to somehow get under the other's skin. He really hasn't done one thing that I actually liked or would consider wearing. I don't believe he is a real designer and I am very anxious to see what kind of stuff he comes up with for the pre-fashion show strut-off. I will be very surprised if he makes it. At least Gretchen has a voice - you may not like, but at least it's there, you can tell it's hers, and she has done some really nice outfits - a couple that I would wear - BTW - I REALLY loved her jacket last week. Being a petite person, short & stylish are really hard to come by.
So may the best designer win!!! Let the games begin.....
Re: Double Bias Length Extension
Love this idea! And wouldn't it be cute to embroidery a small motif on a bias strip and use faggoting to connect it? I got about 12 ideas that ran through my head when I read this article. I love Louise Cutting, she is full of really great ideas and techniques. Keep them coming!
posted: 12:52 pm on September 29thRe: Project Runway: Race to the Finish
Well, what a week! Valerie's evening look was not that bad, aside from the shoulder thingy. But the other dress was just bad. I'm not a fan of April, and agree that she should design for Fredericks. I thought for sure Christopher would be the one going home - there just was nothing redeeming in the evening gown. His day look was cute tho. Ivy's colors were great, her concept was great, but the execution was not there, I find it ironic that she was booted for her sewing skills when she was critical of Michael D.'s abilities. I did not like Gretchen's feather duster, and her day look was something a grandmother would wear to hide her chubbiness. Loved Andy's jacket and really thought he would win. Mondo's evening look was darn cute, except it didn't fit in the top. Maybe that's how it's suppose to look - not sure, maybe if the model had breasts.....? I love the "out there" stuff and think it is really interesting to see how they create it. I would like to see more of the process rather than the drama, but after all - it is reality TV.
posted: 12:42 pm on September 29thRe: Project Runway: What's Mine is Yours
Well, it just keeps getting better doesn't it? I was horrified when April go into the top 3 - let alone win!!! I live in Hawaii - resorts are everywhere here and I have never seen anything like that at any of them. And what was that thing Valerie had going? Ugh!
posted: 5:22 pm on September 13thI absolutely loved Christopher's outfit - it was my style and something I would buy and wear. Andy was the clear winner of this challenge. Now that I could definitely see on Waikiki anytime.
I was never much of a fan of Cry Baby Casanova, but his outfit was actually quite attractive, and I too would wear that to dinner on a cruise or resort.
I too am getting a little frustrated with this season. They bought another 1/2 hour so we could listen to more whining and stabbing each other. I have been watching some of the old reruns and for the most part, the designs were much better and the dialogue was more constructive. But it is reality TV folks, and drama sells that. But I think we would certainly all watch anyway, even without the drama!
Re: Project Runway: You Can Totally Wear That Again
I want to know why sometimes "poor execution" counts and sometimes it doesn't.....anyone got any clues? I loved Mondo and Chris' dresses and clearly Mondo should have won this challenge. Michael C's dress was OK from the front, but if you turned it to the side & back it was puckered and pulled and uneven. And what the dickens was that thing he had the zipper stuck in? It was awful!
posted: 5:32 pm on September 7thPoor attitudes of the designers are getting old. Get over it already, if you don't like that someone who you think is less of a designer than you keeps winning, then get with the program and design something better. But please stop whining and blaming other's for your shortcomings.
This was not my favorite challenge, seemed sort of lackluster. Seems like this season has been sort of blah. I really like Mondo's style and Andy has put out some great stuff. Casanova is hit or miss - mostly miss in my book. Valerie might be OK, but so far not my favorite. Michael D is on borrowed time. If Gretchen would just design and quit whining, I think she'd do better (I so wanted to like her, coz I am originally from Portland). It is just a different sort of group than we are use to, and I agree that the extra 1/2 hour would be better spent showing us more of the design process rather than the drama.
Maybe next week will be better!!
Re: Project Runway: There IS an "I" in Team
I was pleasantly surprised by the lace/military team's designs. This was the best looks we've seen from Casanova, Peach and April. Valerie, Mike D and Mondo - good jobs as well. Definitely looked like a collection, but you could still see the individual style of each designer. I agreed with who won.
posted: 5:49 pm on August 31stI was put off by the behavior of the other team. It was good to see Ivy & Gretchen get taken down a peg. There was nothing inspiring about that collection - although I liked the cowl neck blouse that Michael C made.
Does anyone remember Wendy Pepper???? Gretchen is just a younger, more talented version I'm afraid.....
Re: Project Runway: Hat's Off to You
yes to jbfjcmo....definitely. And maybe Kristin's dress should have gone with the mask!
posted: 6:21 pm on August 24thMike D - My favorite look this week. Love the pleating and the way it goes with the hat.
Mondo - What can I say? I know people that would wear it. It's original & fun, but a mustache????
Peach - Looks like my Mom's couch - what was she thinking?
Valerie - Not terribly original, don't like the mask at all. I'd have changed models (and made enemies I'm sure)
Casanova - Wrong dress is posted. His look was nice, elegant, expected.
AJ - Adorable dress, but did not go with the straw-color on the hat. Loved the look but the fabric of the dress & hat color were so off that it didn't work.
Andy - Again, nice outfit but having nothing to do with the hat - wrong fabric.
April - I loved this hat. I saw oriental and would have gone with some kind of modified kimono look. Panties? Really? Ugh!
Mike C - Nice dress. Winner? Not so sure.
Christopher - Loved the jacket and thought the outfit went well w/the hat. Maybe a puffy skirt w/tulle peeking out would've been more appealing.
Gretchen - Loved it! To me this was her best effort to date! And it went with the hat!
Ivy - Yawn
Kristin - What was she thinking? I'd have picked that hat first - I love orchids and this could have been fabulous! Losing look? you bet!
Re: Project Runway: It's a Party!
I was thrilled that Andy won - I loved his dress. There were several that were really great, Christopher's was quite elegant to have beem made from paper, and I thought Peach's outfit was adorable. A bit young perhaps, but very cute. Can someone tell me why Casanova is still there? What a goof!

Re: Project Runway Season 8, Episode 2 Recap
I really liked the red dress and thought it should have won. I was surprised that they didn't send home more last week, but agreed with cutting Jason this week - Nicholas, not so much. I am anxious to see what else Mondo and Andy have in their bags, both had very nice outfits for this show and I loved Andy's last week. I think Peach needs to show up if she is going to make it - gives me hope, since I am over 50 as well. I also want to see if Ivy actually has any design talent, so far I haven't seen much. Looking forward to the rest of the season and as always, wishing it was Thursday already!
