I started sewing a few years ago but haven't really excelled at it. I can make a skirt out of a pair of pants, simple T-shirts, I can hem, plus other very basic things.
I am 55 years old and disabled which gives me lots of time to either sew or learn about sewing. My Mother sews and has since the beginning of time. (if I'm not mistaken, my Mother actually invented sewing ;-) I never really took an interest in it when I was younger. I figured "That's Women's work!" Boy! Was I wrong.
I came to the Threads website looking for DVDs for beginners; which I found. I bought the "Teach Yourself to Sew" videos #1 and #2 and I am SO glad I did. I knew there was a lot I didn't know about the basics, but I didn't know it was THIS much! The lady Really knows her stuff and knows How to present it. I am learning so much, it's incredible!
I am glad to be here and a part of the sewing community. My wife and kids are glad too. They get "new" stuff once in a while and get their pants hemmed when they need it. ;-)

Re: Teach Yourself to Sew: Fabric 101

Thank you So much for this informative video! I would be considered a beginner at sewing. I've hemmed pants, made some repairs on clothes, but I find myself in more trouble than in succeeding. I look forward to learning more from you! Again, Thank You So Much!
