Metallic Trim

The original idea for this Christmas and wedding attendee dress came from a preview of Chanel's 2010 Cruise Line Collection which featured a scarf-dress and stole. I teach and practice yoga and...

Re: Project Runway: There's a Pattern Here

What an emotional week, my heart went out to Mondo and I'm so glad he's found release from his secrets. He simply LOVES what he does, what a creative spirit. I can only imagine his work getting even better now that he's cleared his traumas, admitted them, and now owns them.

My personal fave this week was April! I'm looking to make a dress for a wedding next June. I cut out my head and taped it to a chopstick, then I hold it up to all the Vogue patterns on-line. Not one is appropriate for me, but April's works! I would need it longer, and I could lose the frills, but that fabric she designed and incorporated into the black was phenomenal to me.

Must've missed the preview about the cheating. Hmmmm......

Re: Project Runway: Race to the Finish

OHMYGOODNESS, I just LOVE how MONDO came alive with the Jackie O challenge and now this one. FINALLY, a winner whose creative juices are flowing. Sometimes I think they should leave everyone on the set for at least five weeks until we see their blockages cleared. His tailoring looks superb, and that is what differentiates him from the rest--they are all working within the same time frame but he is CREATING and some of the others are merely complaining. Andy and Michael, also well executed. Ivy? She spends more time spinning wheels and making excuses for what she did NOT do, it leads me to believe that she is just not comfortable in this role and I'm glad she's gone. Valerie, if she doesn't just resign (which would bring Ivy back) will be the next to go. Bridesmaid dresses, both of them. April is two generations below me, but has anyone else noticed that "hot pants" seem to be her thing? What I wore in the early 70s? I was a little offended with the focus on the left breast of Christopher's couture, and Gretchen is totally 60s, and that is withOUT an update. I could not believe that Heidi said she would wear that, it looked like it needed a lint shaver. I predict Mondo, Andy, and Gretchen for the final three but I sure would prefer Michael to Gretchen, I just don't see what they like in her.

Re: Project Runway: What's Mine is Yours

I loved Casanova's design, in fact I recently purchased two Vogue patterns which were quite similar, lovely full pants and a boat-sleeve top. Imagine my surprise after watching Project Runway to find I have old lady taste! I think focusing on the cattiness is just a way to bring some emotion to the show, although I'm sure it exists in the real fashion world. I'm disappointed in the designers this year and have announced that this is the last Runway I'll watch, but I think they finally stepped up to the challenge this week, most were very creative and made me dream of being in a Hawaiian resort. On personality, both Gretchen and Ivy should be gone, but let's hope they learned a lesson and start treating others with more respect. I'm sure the judges want to see more from them. As for Michael Kors? I've never chosen any of HIS Vogue patterns.

Re: The Rose for Becky

WOW! This just takes my breath away. So beautiful.

Re: Russian steppes jacket

This fabric is incredible! And you've chosen to showcase it at its best by creating solid-color sleeves. I like the hidden red, just YOU know about it until you take it off. I also would love to see how this wears.

Re: Velvet houndstooth with red satin

I agree-the detail in this is stunning. I see it with a long skirt, the red of the collar. Or casually over black slax for a jaunt-around-town look!

Re: Scarlet silk evening gown

Magnificent color and finished product! Great hint about the cording. I made a bulky handbag once that required gathering and it was suggested I use dental tape, which also worked well. But since I keep cording in my sewing room it's a much more convenient alternative. Thank you!

Re: Metallic Trim

Wow,this was my first post ever so I really appreciate the comments. (Bird of Paradise happens to be one of my favorite yoga poses, so whether it was intentional or not I got it!) I shall check out Lanvin and Erte. As I get more comfortable with posts I shall add back views and full views. Thank you both very much for your input.

Re: Fancy Fabrics Challenge Official Rules

I've read the Submission Requiments and was wondering if using a commercial pattern ("corporate logo") disqualifies me from entering. Must all these designs be original, including the pattern?
