Re: McCall's patterns for your fabric stash

There's an elephant in my sewing room--it's the stash! Thank for the patterns.

Re: What fabric do you love to sew with most?

I can sew any fabric. So I love to sew any fabric that will give me the design-look I am after. But if I have to choose, it would be a rayon blend. The drape and feel of this type of fabric is awesome as well as easy to clean.

Re: DVD GIVEAWAY: Threads Magazine Archive, 1985-2011

Being a Threads subscriber for many years, I would save my issues for a year, and then cut out all the articles I knew I would use and put them in a binder. And the binder grew... Trust me, the DVD is a much better way of storing and retreiving the information I need.

Re: Teach Yourself to Sew 2: Two Great Seam Finishes

I agree with Delovleo. I noticed too that a step is missing: pressing under the back edge 1/4 inch before sewing it down. If that is not the case, a raw edge would be exposed to wear and tear.

Re: Color Coordination

I wouldn't wear those colors. They are beautiful, but not on me. This is the beauty of sewing: when ready-wear trends are not to my personal stylings and tastes, I can create my own wardrobe that complements me to my greatest advantage.

Re: How to Make a Hat Base

I am a Red Hatter and I love to wear hats of all kinds. I have several ways of keeping a hat on my head. One way is to make a small ponytail in my hair where I want the hat to set and then I anchor the comb on the hat or I use a hat pin to catch the pony tail. Sometimes I anchor the hat to a plastic head band (not stretchy cloth) which I have glued felt patches on so I can sew the hat to it. If your hair is fine, tease and spray it a little before making the pony tail. Hope this helps.

Re: Book Giveaway: "1,000 Clever Sewing Shortcuts & Tips"

Make every effort to learn your craft or hobby as if you are a professional. Subscribe to magazines about sewing, buy books and dvds, watch tv programs, attend seminars. Purchase tools and equipment that will enable you to produce quality garments and crafts, which will feed your passion to create more. Even your mistakes will become a designer opportunity to create something you were convinced would end up in the trash. Be open to change and new ideas and techniques. I've invented some ways of my own to create a one of a kind. I learned sewing in high school in the 60's and the only things that I still use that have remained a constant is: keeping everything on grainline, pressing, and preshrinking fabrics. Sewing is such fun!!!!!!

Re: Tell-tale signs of an accomplished sewer

Not only do I press as I go along, but I take my garment to my dry cleaners to have a final professional press before I wear it or send it out to a customer because professional pressing equipment gives it that final awesome look.

Re: Project Runway: Season 8 - Finale Part 2

Mondo gets critized as having teen designs and Gretchen wins with those pants that only a teenie can wear. I think Mondo should have won, and Andy second. Love that polka dot dress as well as the rest of his collection. I am looking forward to buying a "Mondo"!

Re: Project Runway: You Can Totally Wear That Again

I will miss Peach because she was so helpful to the other designers and had a great attitude that was a joy to watch. I, too, am tired of the bitchiness and back-biting. I think I will begin tooning in just before the runway so I don't have to witness such bad behavior. I really want to see more of the designing process and since the show is NOT doing that, then I will just watch the runway and final decisions of the judges. Who needs one and a half hours of diva drama?

Re: Project Runway: Hat's Off to You

I loved the look of most of the hats and kept having an expectation of 'My Fair Lady' type garments. But alas...
As for April's outfit, the shorts would have been okay with me if they would have looked like shorts instead of underwear, because, afterall, the hat did look like it came from the rice fields.

Re: Organza beaded "feather" edge

This is a beautiful embellishment; however, a photo of the finished garment would have been helpful too.

Re: Project Runway - Sew Much Pressure

I really enjoy Emilo's work. Red carpet does demand a corset to be built into a dress to show off the wearer's figure to its best advantage and to add the struture a strapless gown requires. Seth has some good vision also, and I have enjoyed his designs as well. Glad Anthony is back--I find him to be fun and he has been a key winner several times where his designs are before the public, whether on a cover or at one of the Red Carpet events. Mila does seem to be in a rut. I think she started out strong, but is not showing enough variety which fashion lines would need to have. To bad Maya left; I think she had interesting designs and they were well-made. She had the potential to be in the final three.
