Aztec Throw Jacket

My sister saw this jacket in a sewing magazine and found the perfect triple woven throw.  I made myself one first, because I wasn't sure how badly the throw would fray and wanted it to be perfect...

Fruit Crate Label Throw Jacket

My sister saw this jacket in a magazine and wanted one made with an aztec throw that she had found.  I was nervous making it for her, as the throw she chose was a triple woven throw.  So, I decided...

Re: Enter the 2014 National Sewing Month Giveaway

I found a large jumper in a thrift store, disassembled it and making a "new" summer dress. I do not have a subscription to Threads yet, but have picked up a copy, now and then at the fabric store, and would like to read more!

Coco Chanel. Her attention to detail, and her timeless designs. I have learned a lot from reading about her, and used some of her techniques. Her techniques inspire me to try different approaches.

Re: The Bag-Lady Giveaway: Four handbag books and a quilted bag to carry them all!

I have a bag in mind, I just need to get it started!! I found a brown/black/red plaid (think Burberry-ish) jumper in a thrift shop and deconstructed it. The purse will be similar to a tote bag, but not as large. I want the sides to collapse in, when it's not so full, and it has to have an easy access pocket on the outside for my cell phone, keys and sunglasses.

Re: Enter to Win an Oliso Pro Smart Iron!

I keep a remnant of corduroy next to my ironing board. When ironing on the wrong side of fabric, that might leave crush or press marks on the front, I first lay down the corduroy and lay my fabric on top. The corduroy keeps the fabric from crushing. I also use cheesecloth as a pressing cloth. I can use it single layer or fold it depending on the fabric I am ironing. I find it holds moisture well, if I need a little steam, but isn't too wet. The next project I am working out in my head is a quilted purse.
