I have been sewing 38 years, but mostly complex quilts. Want to make myself a new wardrobe!! I'm "retired" to free me for family caretaking. Want to get on the good discussions here. Oh, and I'm a Project Runway fan. Nice to meet everyone.

Re: Project Runway: You Can Totally Wear That Again
My husband says he likes Michael C's, but I could see the upper yoking was whip-stitched poorly onto the lace. It was too funereal.

On a former post about PR, someone said they thought Heidi makes the final decision. Is this true?
Re: Project Runway: There IS an "I" in Team
Sorry, one more thing. I am in my fifties and I am disappointed when Peach's designs are shown. Older people can be trendy and she's making us look out of touch. I wish she would be a good representative of the "elder generation", and do the edgy stuff. I am not criticizing her ability to design and sew sweet, girlie pieces, because she is excellent at that.

Designers need to know how to sew in order to make a successful design that their staff can execute well. To be in the Final Three, these designers must sew a whole collection in a short amount of time!

Other types of artists, writers, etc, can be prima donnas IF they are brilliant enough (others let them ruminate between creations). But fashion designing is very much a business and you don't answer to just an agent, then live in a hole till you finish your next book.
Anyone want to predict the Final Three?? I think it will be Andy South, Michael D, and Mondo. But i'm probably wrong, ha ha.

Well, I was not a happy camper last Thursday night.
posted: 4:39 pm on August 29thAs FINE a seamstress as Gretchen is, I let my emotions get in the way, and was hoping that she would go.
When they said AJ was out, I hit my fist so hard on our recliner, that our Chihuahua almost bounced off the other side.
But attitude IS important for whoever the big winner will be. If Gretchen is calculating, unreasonable, pig-headed, and egotistical, can she work in the business world where teamwork is so important?
I don't think Gretchen's talent is over the top, not like Austin Scarlett's. (Hey, I've met him. He designed the bridal gown we bought for our daughter in Chicago- the one big indulgence for her wedding in 2008. But I knew he was very talented from the first show when he wove corn husks together to make a dress.)
Should her awful attitude be cause for the judges to send her home?
Re: How have you organized your stash?
This is a temporary solution that I am using. I bought lots of bankers boxes, labeled them and stacked alphabetically.

I include "Novelty" and "Stripes" or whatever makes sense for the work you do. Also there's boxes labeled "Special Projects- Box A" etc.
Big plastic bins are better but I can't afford them right now. The boxes are vulnerable to moisture.

To memawphd,
posted: 11:07 am on August 27thAbsolutely, you have a great idea!!! The green would mimic a stem, and make the floral hat soar! Anyway, I would wear yours, in a photo shoot, in my twenties...
Now I'm trying to out how to find comments from last night's show. Bet everyone has a LOT to say!

HI Sewsie,
posted: 10:14 pm on August 24thThese clothes are runway fashions that are typically over-the-top. Celebrities may wear them as is, but most of us would look odd wearing them. The original ideas get modified for the general public.
Does this sound correct to others following this topic?
The show PROJECT RUNWAY is fascinating as it follows the designers in every phase of design and production. Their personalities are unique, and things in the workroom or apartments do disintegrate into petty gossip.
About matchy, matchy, Episode One of this season, the very talented designer who went home- McKell (?)- made an innovative dress from a blue shirt, but was criticized for choosing a hot pink purse. OKay, the purse definitely wasn't matchy-matchy, and it got criticized for not matching. The judges are not perfect and seem to make decisions based on their own taste. Fashion design is not a science, more the opinions of those in high places.
Me? I just want to make clothing that looks well on me and pushes my itty-bitty fashion envelope!
Re: Project Runway: Hat's Off to You
OK, I really liked Michael C's dress. The pumpkin dress with the red hat are together on the hot side of the color wheel, so I felt it matched.
posted: 6:44 pm on August 23rdAs far as matchy-matchy, I understand this to mean it lacks an element of surprise to make it interesting. Like a cotton made to add perfect contrast to the main design fabric. Professional quilters suggest throwing in a totally unexpected splash of fabric to spice up a quilt. (Easier done with quilts than apparel, most likely.)
Since his dress did not have any red in it, that was thinking out side the box. Most designers would have used black, white, red.
I would wear that dress in a heartbeat (but not the hat, ha ha).
Michael Drummond's clever architectural outfit should have won, in my opinion.
Kristin's orchid dress was hideous. That hat needed something delicate and floating, don't you think?
It's been great fun to read the comments. Project runway is the most fun to be had on TV!
