Re: BOOK GIVEAWAY: "Underwear Fashion in Detail"

Wow! There are so many terrific posts on this fascinating book. I, too, have been interested in the history of underwear. Have you ever wondered what they wore under those togas? I can relate to those who recalled being introduced to girdles as young teenage girls. Hated it! Imagine a size 2 body "needing" to wear a girdle. Please! Garter belts were another misery that were required in order to wear stockings, but they beat out girdles for convenience and comfort. The only problem occurred when one of those garters broke. The loss of only one would allow a stocking to sag. If you lost two on the same side, you'd be wearing the stocking around your ankles. Glad I made it to the 21st Century.

Re: A Pretty Blue Coat

On my computer, the coat's color looked like a pale blue; however, when I got down to where the snaps are shown, the fabric is a prettier, richer shade of blue. I'm thinking that this picture shows the true color of the coat.

I loved all of the details on the coat, especially the horizontal back dart, which I had never heard of. I just wish we could have seen the full garment, front, back, and one side.

Re: Book Giveaway: "Threads Sewing Guide"

OMG! I could not believe it when I saw this offer. My first "sewing" experience was tracing the bodies of paper dolls onto paper and designing clothes from the Sears catalog onto the drawings, along with tabs of course. Next, I graduated to hand sewing clothes for baby dolls. During junior high school, I learned to use a sewing machine and made a garment for myself. I was so proud of it. I wish that I had kept it, but I wore it out.

During those years, I came across the Vogue Sewing Book. For the longest time, that was my sewing bible. Then, I discovered Threads magazine. I could not believe it. I had found the mother lode of sewing information. Now, to have an opportunity to win a copy of Threads Sewing Guide would be the pinnacle. I know that it will contain everything that the novice and the experienced sewer need to know. I guess it goes without saying that I would love to have a copy. I am trying to pass along my sewing skills to the next generation. They don't have the benefit of sewing classes and, I think, it is important for those of us who know something about it to pass along the techniques and the love for manipulating fabric.

Re: 10-Year-Old Designer Creates Her Own Fashions for Kids

Oh, she is too fab! I loved the story and her beautiful work. She has a wonderful career ahead of her. To be so focused and so creative at such a young age must be a gift from God.

Re: Mastering the Narrow Hemmer, Part Three

I am probably among a host of people who have shied away from this group of presser feet because I did not know how to use them properly. I have this edition of Threads in my library, but this is the first time that I noticed and understood the importance of wedding the proper foot to the type of fabric. I can see now why I had so much trouble. I am getting ready to work on an evening skirt and this should make the hemming so much easier and more professional looking.
