Re: Giveaway: SewStylish Spring 2012 Fashion Sewing Guide
Hey THreads, your website has problems. The page keeps jumping back to the top, and I've had to scroll down to the bottom about eight times now, just to get logged in and leave a comment. When I tried to change one word I wrote, it deleted my whole comment. So I'm not going to re-elaborate again.

Re: Color Coordination
It's interesting to see this season's palette, however, I usually just ignore these things and wear clothes that go with my skin tone, regardless of what's "in." For me that's yellows, oranges, browns, olive greens, reds (no blue undertones) etc. No pink or blue (except jeans) or pure white. Some years I can find lots of clothes in my colors, others, not so much. It looks like this year there will be clothes I can wear, although I'm watching my spending so probably won't add much new stuff. However, I do have a fabric stash I can dip into, and really need to get back to doing more sewing.

I've been meaning to attend this event for years but haven't made it there yet. I usually see the advertisements in the fabric stores ahead of time, but didn't see any this year. I didn't stop to think that vendors would have speciality fabrics, trims, and notions. A little more motivation to go next year.

Re: A Clever Finish Makes a Single Layer Reversible
NIce idea. Do you leave the edges raw and just decorative-stitch over them? Do you have a photo of a curved and clipped edge you could show?

Re: How to Make Stripe Insertions
I agree with Eileen B. I think it would be easier to piece the fabric first, then cut it out from a single pattern piece. Even if you wanted to strategically place the stripes, you could do it without cutting up the pattern piece. My opinion only . . . .
posted: 8:09 pm on August 24thI couldn't tell from the photo which stripes were inserted. It looks like a single piece of striped fabric. Good job of piecing, I guess . . . ?
Re: Project Runway: Hat's Off to You
Just what is the point of Project Runway? Are these supposed to be real clothes that real people would wear or is it a contest to see who can come up with the most outlandish costume?
posted: 8:01 pm on August 24thI don't have TV and have never seen the show--just the photos on the website. Based on the photos alone I just don't "get" the appeal.
Re: Add style and flair with pleats
I agree with SilksWithAttitude: I would like to see a photo of the entire finished garment so I can see what my finished product might look like. With these tuckpleatthingies (thanks corrinjrossi), I can picture it quite easily. However, some of your more obscure (to me) projects, I can't visualze what the finished project is supposed to look like. Close ups are great, but how about one photo of the whole garment?
posted: 5:03 pm on May 25thWhat's in a name? I've never heard of a cartridge pleat. These look like what I've known as tucks. Maybe we can have a future article on different kinds of pleats?
Cheers!
Re: Mystery Sewing Machine Foot
I say play with it and then let us know what you learn! I looked at "Google images" for "ruffler sewing machine foot," and didn't see anything that looked EXACTLY like this. However, I did see a couple of similar feet with a little arm-thingy that moves. One website said the moveable arm hooks onto the machine's doohicky that goes up and down--as the foot moves up and down with the machine, it counts stitches between pleats.

I changed my avatar to my favorite dahlia, Tartan. Now I'm trying to change my screen name. I look forward to using my new bias tape maker.

If this is what Threads must publish to attract younger readers, I guess you will lose this 40-something reader. More and more of your articles feature "artistic" renderings that I just don't "get." I think of Threads as being a fine sewing magazine. There is not one thing in this collection that I would be caught wearing out in public.
posted: 11:37 am on February 10thI was shopping the other day at Macy's and saw a blouse I really liked, but the ruffle collar was unfinished. I would have bought it if not for that. To me it looked tacky. Maybe that's the trend and I'm and old frump.
I can't even say I would like the mobius dress. I have a feeling that it wouldn't look so great in a front view with the model just standing straight up.
