Pamela Hoelscher, San Antonio, TX, US

I'm starting a Junoir American Sewing Guild group in my area to help younger people (8 through 22)gain some sewing experience and advance their skills.

Since sewing isn't taught in most schools anymore, I hopr this will breed interest and enthusiasm for sewing and creativity.

I have 2 grandkids, 1 boy and 1 girl, starting in this group, and 2 more waiting to be old enough to join!

craft interests: crochet, embroidery, knitting, quilting, restyle, sewing, recycling clothes

Re: Enter to Win a One-Year Subscription to Threads!

As an avid sewist, and sewing teacher, the information in Threads is a great source for getting information.

I'd like to win, because I love this magazine, and use it in my teaching techniques alot.

Re: Mega Quilt Giveaway

I'm a pretty basic quilter, because I have more experience sewing clothes.
I have, however, embraced quilting with fear and awe.
Fear, because I'm not really great at it so far.
In awe, because of the new world it's openned to me.

I'm working on quilts for my grand kids, though, so far I;ve only managed story quilt tops and "learning" squares for quilts to be auctioned in the Guild I'm in.

I'd loved to win, so I can learn even more!

Re: What influences helped to shape your current sewing hobby or career?

I started sewingout of desperation. I was too tall for my size from when I was 2.
If it fit, it was way too short. If it was long enough, I walked out of it.

I was taught to sew, and figured o7t how to resyle clothes that were given to me by my mother's friends (they "grew" out of them).

Since then, I stay motivated to to continue to sew in my style, and show others to do the same.

My youthful frustration is now my life's work.

Re: DVD GIVEAWAY: Industry Insider Techniques with Louise Cutting Volumes 1-4

This is the perfect set of DVDs for teaching new and more experienced sewers.

This would really help me in my sewing classes. My classes are free, and my students are younger than most, and fairly inexperienced

These DVDs will get them well on their way with good habits, and tricks to make their creations better.

Hope I win!

Re: Book Giveaway: "Girl's World" by Jennifer Paganelli

I have been sewing for girls for years! I have 3 grand-daughters, ages 13, and 6(twins). They all have their own sewing machines, and have basic sewing skills. The twins started at 3, when they helped sew their own Easter dresses.
I also teach a small sewing group of girls,(and 1 boy) with The American Sewing Guild. These kids all have a love of sewing, and I try to find things for them to learn and sew.
We also do charity sewing to show our love of sewing and
along with giving someone a smile.
I would love to win this book, so I can have fresh ideas, and be able to better teach the girls on their levels.
I sew for family, friends and anyone with a need for sewing.
My favorite is for girls, because their eyes just light up.
Last year, I made the twins' Baptismal dresses to their delight, and raves fon others on how pretty they were =O).
Thanks for the consideration!

Re: Book Giveaway: Successful Serging

I'm starting a Junoirs group for our local American Sewing Guild Chapter to give younger people (6 through 22) more sewing knowledge and experience. Since this isn't taught in many schools anymore.

This way, they can learn with their peers, and maybe some moms can get back into sewing, too.
