I'm helping/teaching a friend of mine to sew a dress for her niece's wedding. It's so fun to get to share my love of sewing with a friend, and she's looking forward to going to the wedding in her new dress and telling people that she made it. I've also made a few new t-shirts and skirts for myself, and soon as the fabric I've ordered arrives I'm going to make a new duvet cover. I love Threads magazine and the weekly emails you send out; they connect me with other sewers and inspire me to try new techniques and new projects.
What a wonderful grandma you are! And what a lucky girl she is (and beautiful too). I hope to be able to do something like this for a grandchild someday.
This looks like a great book for inspiration. The difficulty will be whether to buy it for myself or my daughter, or both of us.
Wow! That is a stunning dress; it's just beautifully constructed and finished. Thank you for sharing it with us.
I love the quickness of hand basting and how it allows me to assemble complex pieces quickly once I get them to my sewing machine. In contrast my other favorite hand-stitch is top-stitching with a pick-stitch; I enjoy the rhythm and challenge of keeping the stitches even and straight.
