Re: Book Giveaway and Interview with Shea Henderson

I am a self-taught sewer. The hardest lesson I learned in the 80s was that all patterns have to be fit/adjusted to my body. Even though I was petite and was relatively easy to fit, I just assumed the pattern out of the envelope would fit me. It's no surprise that I had a few wadders because I didn't make those pattern adjustments. This greatly disappointed and discouraged me. We didn't have the internet back then where I could Google what went wrong. And I didn't belong to a sewing community. I was a busy professional woman who sewed when I had time because I loved to mess with fabric and patterns and usually learned how to sew the hard way. Later I pick up quilting but eventually returned to my first love, garment sewing. After much study, classes and experience, I understand that every pattern has to be adjusted for fit before anything else. And I understand my fitting issues and the importance of muslins. Consequently, I have very few wadders these days. Lessons learned!! I am grateful for all the resources we have now, such as sewing magazines, like Threads, books, online classes, webcasts, sewing machine web site support, videos, online sewing communities and local community groups to help us all be the best maker of our garments that we can be. This new book, School of Sewing, is exactly what I am talking about. If I don't win it, I'll probably buy it. But it would be nice to win... :-)

Re: Book Giveaway: "Patternmaking Made Easy," Third Edition by Connie Crawford

I love sewing my own clothes and would love to have this book because it would help me create better sewing patterns for myself and become a better all around sewer. I enjoy studying books about garment sewing because some of that information actually sinks into my brain!! I love Connie Crawford, who is a sewing superstar in my book, and read as much of her writings as I can so I can learn to be a better sewist. I've coveted her books, and this one would make an excellent addition to my sewing library.

Re: Enter the Teach Yourself to Sew Giveaway Sponsored by Janome

I want to learn to sew better so that when I get an idea, I have the skills to execute it expertly. These videos will teach me to do that. Thanks!

Re: Win a Copy of Serger Techniques on DVD!

I would love to win this so I am more able to take advantage of my beautiful serger. Thanks!!

Re: Book Giveaway "Vintage Lingerie"

This book of vintage lingerie really looks interesting. The older patterns are so much nicer and probably better made than what you can buy in the stores.

Re: Magazine Giveaway: Sew Home

looks like a good magazine with some great projects. I'd love to win it and make some up. thanks!

Re: Pinterest for Sewing Projects

I joined pinterest for a while but the spam controls there are nonexistent. I was getting spammed and complained. My complaints were ignored. I read online that the people who run the site don't quite know what they are doing re spam. So I quit. I don't need to be spammed by people who are taking advantage of the website's naive owners. Sorry tale. But I'll stick with websites that treat me better regardless of what they offer.

Re: BOOK GIVEAWAY: "All Sewn Up"

this book looks like fun.

Re: How to Sew a Bias Top

I recall that in the next issue of Threads there was a correction to the blouse pattern. Something about the numbers being off. Can't remember but if you're going to make the cute top, check out the corrections or letters to the editor about this. Worth it so you don't make the same mistake. It's too bad they didn't catch that and correct it here.

Re: DVD GIVEAWAY: Industry Insider Techniques with Louise Cutting Volumes 1-4

From what I have seen of the videos on theads insider, they are fantastic. Thanks for the giveaway.

Re: BOOK GIVEAWAY: "Famous Frocks" by Sara Alm and Hanna McDevitt

This book is fascinating for those of us who sew garments. Thanks for offering it to a lucky winner!

Re: Giveaway: Threads Insider Membership

Classic sewing shows, like Sew Much More and Martha's Sewing Room, are unavailable to many of us. If you could somehow add some shows, that would make this site the absolute best! It's already pretty darn good. But I'd love to be able to see some of these shows on line. Thanks so much for asking.
