Re: Teach Yourself to Sew 2 - Make Your Own Dress Form: Part 1

The original method I read specified using paper tape, i.e., the brown and/or tan colored package tape with the pre-glued reverse side. Not thin thread encapsulated sticky tape, but paper tape. Small pieces approximately 4-6 inches in length are applied to the person until the entire torso is covered by 3 separate layers of tape. Only then is it carefully removed. In a previous Threads article, 2 layers of colorful mailing tape were applied to liven up the end product.

Stuffing can be a bear, but not for the 12-15 friends who have each crafted a personal doppleganger. They're happy and have a number of perfectly fitted garments to prove it.

I'm eager to view the next video illustrating the method used to craft a stand, then securely mount the dress form!

Re: Sewing findings on securely

Love the use of a decorative stitch to secure snaps and/or hooks 'n' eyes. Like the Hong Kong seam finish, it adds so much to the finished garment. Not to mention securing a small closure without looking tacky.

Dental floss? Good stuff, this. Used it to secure some great looking crystal buttons with a metal shank to a light-weight metallic fabric. Backed each shank button with a tiny, flat, pearl-type button to ensure (sleazy) metallic fabric would not rip and/or shred. Stitching lasted over 30 years until the day I finally dumped the blouse, but not before I cut off all 12 of those marvelous crystal buttons.

Re: Book Giveaway - The Complete Photo Guide to Ribbon Crafts

I love, love, Love embellishment techniques. I've been a fashion designer, sewist who created luscious things in all sizes, a costumer and the kid who introduced her family to the joy of the gusset. All things considered, the gusset speech was memorable if only for the looks on mother-sister's faces when I demonstrated how to adjust rise without questionable language, tears or promises to diet.

Threads feeds my fevered addiction to fabric construction. It's a big job, but Threads makes it easy.
