I have been sewing since I was 13. I am always wanting to learn more. I have only now, after 40 years, decided that drawing my own patterns must not be that difficult. I finally have my own designated sewing room in the house. In my new design I visualize a new sewing machine with a computer station close at hand as well as a place for a new serger. It will be my first serger so I will need a good book at my side to actually use it for more than finishing seams.

Re: Book Giveaway: "Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty"

Alexander McQueen bared his emotions with his designs, everything ranging from rage to fantasy, thought provoking to playful. His designs were breathtaking leaving you wanting to see more. I often wondered how he constructed some of his pieces. I am hoping the book will allow me to understand his methods and techniques.

Re: Introducing the Threads Insider Membership

I thoroughly enjoyed my preview and decided to let the subscription go through. I received a copy of the invoice and it wasn't the rate posted for those who have a "Threads" subscription already. It was 3x as much. There appears to be a glitch in the system but where do I complain about subscription fee?

Re: MAGAZINE GIVEAWAY: The April/May 2012 issue of Threads magazine!

I was thrilled to receive my copy of the latest issue before it arrived at the new stand - first time ever. I usually walk by the new stand wistfully for about 2 weeks after they reach the new stand.
I've read it from cover to cover so can't wait for the next issue. My favourite article was definitely Claire Shaeffer's "Bound for Beauty". The instructions were so easy to follow and the 3 options mean there is a bound buttonhole for all occasions.
My least favourite article was "sophisticated deconstruction. For all its potential, the outfit that was highlighted was a horro!!! I wouldn't be caught dead wearing something so poorly assembled. The idea that layered hems left unfinished add dimension and texture, for me, translates into "I had not time or interest in completing this garment".

Re: Installing the Front Band to the Fantasy Fur Jacket

Wow - I love the selection for the yoke. Looking at the full image of the front of the jacket I couldn't help but think of it with the Fortuney (did I spell that correctly?) shirt.

Re: Leather Lacing for Fantasy Fur Jacket

I am definely inspired to try new things when I read your articles. Your instructions are so clear and concise. I've been itching to do some sewing with leather. The message I get from you is to go boldly and never be afraid to try something new.

Re: Book Giveaway: "Threads Sewing Guide"

You are never too old to learn or improve on sewing techniques. I still enjoy re-reading past issues on my CD collection of Threads magazines. I can picture myself curling up with this book and a cup of tea, out on the deck off my sewing room.

Re: Book Giveaway: Successful Serging

I am in the process of designing my "new" sewing room. Kids are grown up and I've scored a bedroom for my sewing room. In it I plan to include a new sewing machine and serger. While I am experienced in the sewing category, I have never used a serger. I would prefer to be able to use for more than sewing hems which I understand it does very well. But there has got to be more to it than that.
