Girls' Linen Traveling Suit

My seven year old daughter loves taking the train; she is an adventurer at heart. The weather has warmed up, but already fall approaches. I wanted to make her a suit that could travel in the summer...

Re: More Tips for Working with Boiled Wool

Very nice results. Anyone have recommendations for an online shop to buy boiled wool?

Re: Mystery Foot Revealed

What a cool find! I loved the "name the presser foot" mystery and am glad to see we have an answer.

However, despite the "touch of a button" magic of modern machines you speak of, I don't use the vast majority of fancy features on my newer machine. And in fact, for the wool flannel pants I'm sewing on now, I'm using my only other sewing machine - a 1950 Singer Centennial 201-2 (a cast iron straight stitch machine) - including the buttonhole attachment, a large "monster" to be sure - but it makes the best buttonholes I've ever seen on a home machine!

So I say, sometimes older and "simpler" can be better! ;-)

Re: Winner of the Summer Sewing Challenge

It was wonderful to see all the different linen creations in this contest. What fun!

Re: Cherry Blossom Dress

This is great. Like you, I used a rather light-weight, loose-weave linen in a garment with a bit of structure. I love your details and I love that you describe your methods. The red eyelets - Great!

The blouson top is also fabulous. I rarely sew for myself (mostly for my kidlets, and others) but I would love to create that neckline.

Wonderful job!

Re: Safari-style suit

OK, that last picture with the flawless collar / lapel? I am wishing I had your magic skills.

Very nicely done - a classic, that is built to last and wear well!

Re: Ruffled Frill in Red and Orange.

Yes - this dress is living breathing proof that linen dresses don't have to be "sack-like" in any way! This is a vibrant dress that wants to go to a party! Good job.

Re: Raglan Jacket and Scalloped Skirt in Linen

Did you hand-embroider the cut edge? It looks flawless!

That white and blue linen fabric is wonderful. I agree that this Threads contest has been wonderfully inspiring.

Great work!

Re: Summer sewing challenge Express Yourself in Linen

Is it just me, or does the lines of this dress, and the detachable purse, have a very Steampunk feel? I really like it. It looks so cozy, yet is tailored enough to have a great shape. Nicely done!

Re: Nandi's Green Dress

I'll bet you get lots of compliments when you wear this - it is very unique. I love the colors - I am a big fan of green. A fearless dress and a creative seamstress!

Re: red summer dress

I would love to get my hands on this pattern to make for myself! I could never design all these great details.

I love the angular / curvy aspects of this dress - and the color is perfect. This is wonderfully done!

Re: Two tone violet jacket

This is a great project - you worked hard over every detail, and imagined great embellishments! I also enjoy overdying fabric although I have made many an error. :-)
"In my opinion linen that's lived in and loved is like fabric with a soul. "

I agree. I like this sewing challenge because I am seeing just how many wonderful things can be created from linen!

Good job - I love your ability to think outside the box!

Re: Linen Vintage-Styled Sundress

Are those machine buttonholes or bound ones? I couldn't tell by the detail.

What lovely lines on that dress. The era's styles suit you! Nice work.

Re: Linen safari dress

I would like to make a very similar dress - haven't yet found a good starting pattern (I have a large bust and don't know how to do an FBA!).

This looks very comfortable. I love that tiny patch pocket! Great job.

Re: Button Down Shirt Dress

I love re-fashions - you did a great job. I'll bet it feels great to wear!

Re: blouse with controlled raw edges + metallic embroidery

I love raw edges and I also love that you describe in detail your methods. This is beautifully made! Good job.

Re: Ukrainian Embroidery Folkwear childs dress.

I love Folkwear's use of gussets on simple patterns - this is a lovely design for a dress. Are you selling the pattern?

Re: Indigo Linen Discharge Suit

I love the button detail! The color is also beautiful.

Re: Fleur de Linen

This is beautiful - my heart skipped a beat looking at your seam finishes! Wonderful job.
