Re: Not Your Ordinary T-Shirt
I read your article and found it helpful. I made a great shirt for my 27 year old daughter. I tried to replicate a $98 Marc Jacob neckband that was constructed with two layers of knit jersey fabric with the raw edges showing. The raw edges rolled beautifully. I cannot figure out how to make the edges roll. Any help would be appreciated.

I was surprised that Viktor left 2 dresses that the judges loved out of his final runway collection. I think this might have cost him the win. Then again, Anya was always a judges favorite. Mine too. Anyway, Anya is a designer with a definite brand look. She is kind to her competition and always "makes it work". All the designers can take something out of Anya's playbook. She deserved the win.

Every designer picked Anya to go to Fashion Week. That says a lot right there. Can she sew? I don't know. But she is creative with a vision. And probably most important, she works well with others. She does not make excuses - even when she losses her money and has to make a design with a borrowed $11. As Tim so often says, she knows how "to make it work". She is the one the other remaining designers will have to beat. Good luck to all of the remaining contestants. Again coining a Tim favorite "Wow me".

I get the distinction between sewing and designing. I have been sewing for 40 years and have never "designed" anything without a pattern to start. The fact that Anya can create a "design" is her strong point - probably the strongest of the designers. As for her latest win, I have said it before - I do not think black translates well on the TV runway. As for Burt, I am really going to miss him. His dress had a lovely skirt. Bottom line, I don't think there is any room for these designers to feel unhappy with the challenge (ie Burt's bemoaning the parrot). It eats up too much precious time and energy. Anya knows how to sail past any adversity. That's why she is a real winner on this type of competition.

My favorite moment was when Heidi responded to Michael re Burt's too short short's that she kind of liked them that short! Anyway, I thought Josh's designs were better than he got credit for. But really too much whining from him about not being alive in the 70's. Anya deserved the win. She has a real sense of style. Nobody makes it work better then Anya. I was happy to see a win for Burt. His dress is totally wearable. But what was up with the sour puss from Piperline. She looked like she was sitting on a pin.

This show was a design disaster! Sorry:( Viktor was the only possible choice. I was in college in the 70's at U of San Francisco. The hippy style was awesome and I still enjoy wearing the shadow of that style. Where were the tunics. collarless shirts, and vests? I am looking forward to something, anything better this week.

I'm sick of Josh's fits. He should go home. I liked Anya's dress but I think the win should have gone to Vicktor. As for the seamstress comment, well no matter how great you can sew, you still need a good design and fabric. Anya has supposedly been sewing for about 4 months, but her design sense is so strong, it appears to make up for her lack of sewing experience. Though I must say, I find it really hard to believe that she has so little sewing experience.

This weeks episode is Heidi's mantra in reverse - One minute you're out, the next you're in. Anthony Ryan proves that a competitor doesn't give up. Is anyone else bugged by the actual Runway? Large portions of the screen are blocked out with the designers name blocking our view of the designs. I would like a little more view of the finished projects.

Funniest line of the night when Michael Kors said Anthony Ryan accomplished the impossible - he made the pants look big and tight at the same time. Seriously, I could not sit up straight I was laughing so hard. In the end, Heidi was right. Even though I believe that Anthony Ryan has a lot more to offer, it should be a show about the last runway. His was the worst of the night.

Seriously? The bird seed dress hands down. Olivier's skirt was a winner. But that top? Well, I have pets and the top looked like a pet bed. And didn't I hear Tim say not to make a design from pet bed fabric? The top looked dumpy on the model. I hate to think what it would look like on me!

I have a few ideas. But right now I want to thank Simplicity for their figure adjusting patterns. My daughter is a slim adult with a 34DD bust. Adjusting patterns for her was a nightmare until I discovered your special series of patterns for slim to curvy figures. FABULOUS! I have them all. Keep up the fight for terrific well fitting designs.

Wow! lots of comments. I have to wonder if there was something about Gretchen's designs that just didn't translate to the TV screen. Otherwise, I have to assume that Michael and Nina are just crazy, or at the best inconsistent in their judging. I actually missed the runway on the first broadcast. I only saw the clothes as the designer talked with the judges. After watching the rebroadcast, I did see something in Gretchen's presentation that was more appealing then I expected. However, her long dress was in style when I was a teen, forty years ago. Not something I would consider wearing today. In my mind, Andy and Mondo presented beautiful designs that were superior in styling. Throughout PR, designers were cautioned to make the distinction between clothes and fashion. What happened? Tim - I'm confused. Are you?

Whoa! What a show! I guess when you ask an artist to recall things from their childhood, you run the risk of opening an emotional Pandora's box. Unfortunately, the judges can be brutal. I thought Valerie's dress was better than Andy's shorts. I think the family distraction derailed both of them. I liked Gretchen's top and fabric design. However, I don't see her standing a chance against Mondo. He had the most emotional issues and once again, he created the most beautiful outfit.
posted: 2:45 am on October 5thAm I the only one who thinks we don't really get a good look at these designs? First off, a big square with the designers name covers a quarter of the screen during the runway. I really think some of the designs do not translate well to the TV. April's design did not come across as spectacular as the judges stated. Maybe black just doesn't show up that well. I would say the same about Gretchen's velvet design from last week. I would really like a closer look!
Re: Project Runway: You Can Totally Wear That Again
I wasn't crazy about Michael C's dress, but I was less crazy about how the other designers trash talked Michael C, especially Gretchen and Ivy (again). They continue to hammer on his construction skills. I wish someone would remind them that it is a design contest, not a sewing contest. Tim?

I enjoyed this article. I am in my fifties and grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area. The Opera House is so grand, I can definitely imagine this coat as a perfect coverup. What some readers may not realize, many opera goers dress up in very formal attire with big skirts. Also, San Francisco is often cold and foggy. I remember I Magnin. Beautifully made clothes and accessories. I still have a few items stashed away. Frankly, I loved the back of this coat. I always enjoy checking out the construction of vintage garments. Thanks for sharing.

Sarah seemed to have an idea going that she and Tim liked. But after talking to Gretchen, she lost her vision. My advice would be, don't take Gretchen's advice. She is in it to win.

A dress with safety pins? Ouch! I did like the idea, but tweeking it in a day was too big of a challenge. I did not think that Nicolas needed to be sent home. I liked the skirt and the rest wasn't so bad. As to the red dress, well I have always said there is nothing like a red dress! I did like the jumpsuit, but my vote was for Mondo - that was really a fresh look.
