I would also like to learn to Tat. I have the shuttles and booklets for one day when I get time.
posted: 12:19 pm on January 7thJapanese pattern cutting ideas (pattern magic) are very exciting, would love to update my pattern cutting skills with these ideas.
I am always looking to find new ways of making exciting patchwork/pieced garments. I love the article on strips and tubes in issue 159.
Re: MAGAZINE GIVEAWAY: Threads issue #158
I love the challenge of an exciting Vogue designer pattern. Finding out how a garment fits together.
posted: 5:45 pm on November 8thIts also fun to look at a fabric or trim and think how can i use this.............?
Re: What kind of charity project are you sewing?
I don't have time to sew for charity.
posted: 4:37 am on October 19thBut I do donate unwanted patterns, sewing books , magazines, fabric and wool to the GOODWILL SHOP at my local EMMAUS. a charity that helps homeless people. They sell all sorts of items. And also have a group of volunteers who made lovely craft items with donated materials.
Re: DVD GIVEAWAY: Threads Magazine Archive, 1985-2011
I never top learning. The more I know the more I realise what there is to learn. Life is too short. But Threads magazine can help. All those experts. So many ideas and so much information.

Re: Time to Sew for Halloween!
Bunny outfit!
posted: 4:27 pm on October 6thI made a Brer rabbit costume for one of my boys a few years ago when he had to dress up as a favourite book character. I began to wish I'd read him Horrid Henry instead.
Good luck!
Re: Sew Simple
Some lovely designs.
posted: 3:17 am on September 16thI like the browm jacket with side tie, and the blue waterfall jacket.
Showing the patterns in plain colours helps too as sewers are often distracted by a print ...we either like the fabric or we don't .........and this distracts us from evaluating the pattern.
Have not seen this line in the UK but will look out for them.
Re: Book Giveaway: Seventeenth-Century Women's Dress Patterns
X ray photos! I'm really excited and intrigued by this.
posted: 4:07 pm on September 15thThere is so much to learn from the construction of historic costume........thank goodness someone is making detailed photos and notes of thes garments which surely even with careful conservation cannot last forever.
Also museum trips are often frustrating the lighting so dim only able to view gowns from a single angle........books like this are invaluable.
Re: BOOK GIVEAWAY: "Couture Sewing Techniques" by Claire B. Shaeffer
I always enjoy Claires article's in Threads.
posted: 3:17 pm on August 30thThe recent one on Balenciaga was fantastic, I particularly noted the straps to top a wrap-back falling off shoulders.......a fitting problem I've had recently.

Re: Book Giveaway: "Little Things to Sew"
I like to sew for my boys.
posted: 5:00 pm on July 12thAlways on the look out for good boys patterns and ideas.
I get really frustrated by books and articles which claim to be about sewing for children, then I find page after page of dresses. Grrr Grrr
Looking fowward to seeing this book

Re: What will you be sewing this summer?
Hello
posted: 3:20 pm on May 17thI'm collecting prints to make the patchwork skirt and belt from vogue pattern 1244 by koos van den Akker.
But first I have just bought a vintage pattern for a long "wrap" or "gown" which I will sew in either black or bugandy as a long wrap dress.
Also have some gorgeous blouse patterns waiting to be sewn. Plus an interesteg new Mccalls accessories pattern 6253 which has an interesting scarf/necklace.
happy sewing everyone!
Re: A Nice Little Suit
I don't like the skirt.
posted: 3:28 am on May 10thBut the jacket........it looks familiar.........I think I had a designer vogue 80's pattern (not YSL) very similiar. I made it in a black cotton twill!
Re: What fabric do you love to sew with most?
Personally I love wool crepe, silk dupion and tana lawn.
posted: 2:52 pm on May 3rdIt's wonderful when you match the perfect fabric to the pattern.
Re: Book Giveaway: "Embroidered Textiles" by Sheila Paine
I love whitework and traditional english smocking. But all embroidery is so inspiring.
posted: 4:58 pm on January 11thI have a collection of beautiful embroidered table cloths. It was wonderful last summer on my 50th birthday.....I had a garden party with tables all covered with my beautiful cloths. Not sure when they'll get used again.

I love seeing traditional skills re-invented
Thanks for showing
Re: How have you organized your stash?
I know my stash is out of hand........ cupboard and boxes overflowing, binbags! etc etc Sometimes buy fabric because I can't find stuff I already own, But too busy sewing to organise!!!!

very touched by this. Spiral just the right shape, life does go round in circles. Would love to see this on display.

Re: Help us Choose the Next Threads Cover
Don't want to see pictures of trims or fabric ....I can see that in a store or online. The pictures of garments are more appealling. Beige background better.
posted: 4:29 pm on September 29thRe: What is Your Level of Sewing Expertise?
Level of expertise? Not such an easy question.
posted: 4:11 pm on July 6thI have designed and made wedding dresses for 20 years so therefore ticked "professional"
BUT I don't sew leather or knits, and can't remember the last time I tailored a jacket.
Welt pocket I can do, but don't like doing......... ditto bound button holes.
I also love patchwork and making collaged and decorated clothes in my spare time, here my skills are "intermediate"
I'd love to improve my embroidery skills and I'm fascinated by the skills involved in making needlelaces and braids , So much to learn.
The beauty of THREADS is the variety of garment making and needlework. Which constantly challenges me to learn new skills.
