Re: Corsets from the Hardware Store!

Oh, my, what a fantastic idea! I've used items from the hardware store for embellishment (and unusual home decor) but would have never thought of using zip ties in constructing a garment. Thank you so much for sharing this, it somehow makes corset-making less daunting.

Additionally, your choice of grommets is really quite yummy with the coloring of your fabric and looks so much better than the usual silvertone one finds on corsets.

Re: Project Runway 9: "All About Nina"

My goodness, this is starting out to be a poor season. The designs seem uninspired, the "drama" seems to be the focus, the judges seem much flakier on their likes an dislikes, and the hyper-fast editing on the runway portion is completely unwatchable. If this were truly a show about DESIGN we'd see more screen time devoted to DESIGNING. I've been a fan for years, but the fiasco last season, then this poor season... I never thought I'd think this, but I may just give up.

Re: MAGAZINE GIVEAWAY: SewStylish Fall Fashion

What fashion trend would I like to see this Fall? I'm in Texas where it's been 100+ degrees most every day for several weeks. For Fall 'd like to see weather cool enough that I can actually WEAR my Fall wardrobe I've been working on! Really though, I'd like to see more people interested in small details that make an ensemble more personal and unique: more trimmings, brooches, scarves, and the like. Those things can always update existing wardrobes without needing to find more closet space.

Re: Create a Swirled Bias Sleeve

This is beautiful! Great idea, even for sprucing up sleeves for skinny arms like mine. Now I need to "find a reason" to use this technique.

Re: Hand Understitching

Usually I pick up a thread or two of the outer fabric when stitching the facings down, it doesn't show on the garment and is easier to keep flat after laundering. Less ironing is always a good thing! But I agree with the others regarding staggering the clipping of seam allowances, staggering them gives a much smoother look when pressed and finished in most any manner.

Re: BOOK GIVEAWAY: "Underwear Fashion in Detail"

Oh my WORD, those corsets are stunning! I think many people aren't aware of just how much undergarments shape fashion trends. Oh, get it? "Undergarments" shape? I'm so funny.
