My Own Little Corner of the World!
This is a really soft fake fur scarf I whipped up from a remnant after constructing the fur vest. I lined it with brown satin for a touch of elegance. I just love it! Don't you?

Re: The Circular Ribbon Flower
I'm wondering if using finished off ribbon would do away with the fraying I got from just using a piece of cut satin to 'try out' the technique.
posted: 8:15 pm on January 17thI just finished making some larger satin evening clutches and this type of flower would be perfect on some of them.
Thank you for 're-discovering' this technique. I wish my mom had kept all of her old sewing magazines!!
Re: 2011 Golden Globe Awards Red Carpet Fashions
I liked all but HBC's also. I think Michelle Williams looked cute, but maybe too cute..I don't like what Julianne Moore wore as far as the huge "other' sleeve. I liked the pink color on her, but the dress was all wrong. And then there was Tilda Swinton....OMG !!! FUGLY!!!!

Okay, I realize the choice has been made and this discussion is most likely over now, but has anyone seen the new Marc Jacobs RTW 2010 collection???? I went to look at it based on the T-shirt project posted in my email, "Embellish a T-shirt with Ribbon" from the sister site: Craft Stylish.
posted: 6:01 pm on April 29thIt comments on the fact that this project is inspired by some of MJ's newest designs.
OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! How can N E 1 say that Seth Aaron Henderson was on the verge of being too costumy in his Bryant Park collection??????????????????
Go and look at one of America's top designers 2010 RTW collection and tell me you don't think he's seen one too many Cirque du'Soleil shows!
White ghost faces on the models, top knots for hair designs, and bras and panties being sewn onto the outside of an outfit? How much more costumy can you get? How can this ever translate to what I want to find to wear at Saks or H & M?
At least Seth Aaron is more real as far as an actual piece of clothing. Maybe he needs to shorten his Dr. Seuss sleeve lengths but he's certainly not as bad as Marc Jacobs.
With that being said..... I DO enjoy that fashion designers always, always push the envelope, but to criticize a fairly new, newbie for doing things that he obviously is seeing walk down runways, Nina & Michael I mean you two.... is wrong!!
Re: Spring Cleaning for Your Fabric Stash
I LOVE your idea. I have a question, tho...how big is the storage unit that these bolts are standing up in? I'd love to have my fabric look like a fabric store. I especially love the idea that they won't get dusty!
posted: 7:09 pm on April 19thR U also cataloging the yardage amounts? Where do you put this info with regards to the way you're storing the fabric? nest to it? Or elsewhere?
Thanks!
Re: Project Runway -- Welcome to the Circus
I think Emilio's gown was what the judges were wanting, like it or not design wise. But they ALL could've been a costume out of the Beetlejuice movie! Just put Michael Keaton into Seth Aaron's Dr. Suess coat!! It looked like the part of the movie where he becomes the striped long arm monster! Why did almost everyone not get this concept? Everything was going on pretty well as far as trying to weed out designers who understood the expectations and then at crunch time, quite a few CHOKED!
posted: 8:57 pm on April 12thBut in all fairness, I've seen some very weird stuff on runways! Weird hair designs as well as very costumey fashions, so who's to say they weren't actually on target, either!!
Like I said before, Seth Aaron showed up in Portland, Oregon last month on a local TV show, what's up with that?
Re: Project Runway - Sew Much Pressure
Seth Aaron: Should've been a strapless gown with the studding around the bodice top, and he should've committed to actual gun metal grey. It's a great change form black.
posted: 6:27 pm on April 5thMaya: Wow...well what can I say, obviously she got spooked!
Milla: We've seen the side hip swirl thing before, and if she had overlapped the bra cups just a bit and done something a bit more different with the sides, ...maybe it "...coulda been a contender"!
Jay: He's always packing too much into his looks, him and Johnathan both. A bit longer skirt might've helped the look not look so "hippy".
Johnathan: He could've found some more coral to add to the front...or maybe he should've just done the cut work as a waist band...Oh well.
Anthony: Black & white is safe, but I do like his change up on the straps etc and the leg peek a boo, was good!
Re: Teach Yourself to Sew: How to Sew a Bias-strip Scarf
This is a great idea! Now I know what to do with all the hems I've cut off prom dresses and saved for all these months! Thanks!
