Re: No Halstons Here: Project Runway Episode 10 is "Sew '70s"
I wonder what 70's they were referencing. Not the ones I lived through. I remember maxi dresses, moccasins, Levi's jeans and jean's jackets, chokers, nothing like they were wearing.
posted: 6:27 pm on October 4thI LOVED those maxi dresses...lace, empire waists, florals, crocheted scarves...
AND what was that atrocity Bert came up with, he should have been out and I'm sure he's still there for the drama. He won't last.
Re: Last day to enter the Threads Ultimate Sewing Challenge
Contestants...start your machines! Nothing ventured, nothing gained.
posted: 6:12 pm on October 4thRe: Who influenced or taught you the most when you started sewing?
My mother. She sewed matching dresses for us. I used to say the only one who had it worse than me was my younger sister Teresa. There were four girls and it looked like we wore the same dresses for years!
posted: 4:49 pm on August 17thMy mother sewed clothes for our Barbie dolls andknitted them sweaters. All while raising six children born within nine years.
If I could only be half the person she is, I would be happy. I love you mom!

posted: 10:57 am on June 3rdI've been getting more and more into accessories and I'm psyched. I get so many great ideas from Project Runway, and to get more inspiration on accessories will be wonderful.
Re: Book Giveaway: "Threads Sewing Guide"
I buy sewing guides when I see one that looks like it will give me even more insight.
posted: 10:28 pm on May 17thThe best part is looking at the older ones and marveling at the projects and style changes.
I have the "Reader's Digest Complete Guide to Sewing" copyright 1976. There is a project for a skirt/cape beach coverup. My friends and I were laughing over how the times have changed. It's an elastic-waisted gathered skirt, then, pull it up to the neck for the coverup. No sleeves or arm holes. The photo reminds me of a person wearing a cabana!
I do wonder if anyone made it.
Re: Stitches for Gorgeous Gloves
I have my Threads compilation DVD and the stitches. Had the pattern enlarged at Kinko's and cannot wait to start making gloves for me, my mom, and sisters.

This book is amazing. Thank you Threads and Alicia Paulson.
posted: 9:42 pm on March 17thMy son and I have already picked out projects.
Re: Threads Contributors Share Their Favorite Patterns
I do. It's a Simplicity One-hour pattern to make my sons boxers.
posted: 3:57 pm on March 8thPoor kids, if I make them, they have to put up with my fabric choices. Jelly beans, fire trucks, abstract, M&M patterns. They are happy to put up with my choices. After all, if they would pull up their pants, no one would see the wild and crazy boxers. Their choice! 8-)
Re: Book Giveaway: "Embroidery Companion: Classic Designs for Modern Living" by Alicia Paulson
I LOVE needlework.
posted: 9:48 pm on March 1stWhat kind do I do? I've tried all kinds. Crewl, counted cross stitch, cross stitch, candlewicking, even hardanger.
I could never pick a favorite. I knit and crochet and couldn't choose either of them as a favorite.
Re: How to Make a Hat Base
Louisegtx - Gee, what a great idea! As my mother always says "When in doubt, ask?"
posted: 7:00 pm on January 4thI'm excited. I love to try new things.
Also, the article on slow sewing...that's amazing because I've recently decided to slow down when I sew. I'm always in such a hurry to get everything done. When it's done, I just kind of look around and wonder "OK, what next."
I do that with books, too.
Re: Book Giveaway: "1,000 Clever Sewing Shortcuts & Tips"
I would love to give you one tip, but there are so many I'm learning since I've taken up sewing again in the last couple years.
posted: 6:02 pm on January 4thI love the finishing techniqes for snaps an hook/eyes I got from the Threads e-newsletter. As a matter of fact, I've been getting so many great tips and hints that I was given a subscription as a gift for Christmas.
Re: How to Make a Hat Base
happysewing, If you're missing something so am I. I searched and only found a silk flower. Very pretty, but I'm not a flower kind of gal. I would like to make the "leopard" hat, only not "leopard." Since I missed the sources online and just saw them in my latest issue, I was afraid it was just me.
posted: 2:16 am on January 4thRe: How to Make a Hat Base
Where can I find the veiling for hats? I have scoured the internet and cannot find any. HELP!
posted: 4:18 pm on December 31stMy mom got me a subscription to Threads for Christmas. I've received my first issue and can't wait for more. I absolutely LOVE pushing the creativity envelope with great new ideas and techniques.
Re: Book Giveaway: "Horrockses Fashions: Off-the-Peg Style in the '40s and '50s"
I was watching "Topper" the other day and commented to my son that I don't know how much I loved the movie or if it was the styles. That was made in 1937.
posted: 12:14 pm on November 24thOne of the best things about the old movies is looking at the styles of the times. I love the older styles and lament the casual business attire worn in these times. Why can't we swing back to the great old dressing up days?
Re: Project Runway: What's Mine is Yours
I loved Andy's design. It was gorgeous and wearable.
posted: 4:31 pm on September 13thApril's design was a design that could be on a particiant of "What not to Wear". Flowing and flowing are a no no.
I liked Cassanova's outfit. I'm old enough to be a grandmother, but I'm too hippy and dumpy to wear it. The slacks were constructed beautifully and really draped beautifully.
The lingerie should have been sold on Fredrick's of Hollywood, it didn't even have enough class to be a Victoria's Secret outfit.
I'm not a follower of high fashion, it's just not my taste.
Re: Project Runway 7 - Episode 2
Ping's clothes aren't wearable for the average woman, in MY OPINION.
posted: 12:55 pm on January 26thI am a "Short, fat, middle-aged woman" and know that I would look incredibly dumpy in her clothes.
BUT . . . what I see in magazine as the couture collections, aren't realistic for the average woman. I mean, even if the pricing WAS somewhere near what I could pay.
Re: Create Intricate Fabric With Pin Weaving
Swell, another "must do" project.
posted: 12:50 pm on January 26thI lost my job about 3 months ago, and have been VERY busy knitting, crocheting, sewing, macraming, etc. I'm loving every minute of it. There just don't seem to be enough hours in the day to do all the projects I have lined up. I mean, I have to get to my tatting, quilling, beadwork, etc.
I just don't have time to get a job. Unfortunately, since I support myself and my two sons . . . I will have to . . . eventually. 8-)
Re: Book Giveaway - The Complete Photo Guide to Ribbon Crafts
