Re: Post your sewing tips
I use a 24 x 30 inch "clean room sticky mat" at the entrance to my sewing room. This a basically a "tablet" of very thin tear-off sheets which are coated with a very sticky but non-transferring substance. On entering and exiting the sewing room, I take several steps on the mat, which traps and holds any household (entering) or sewing (exiting) debris. When the top sheet gets full and stops picking up what's on my shoes, I just tear it off and start on another sheet. The mats I use come in tablets of about 50. They're spendy, but at a about $1 a week, the price is well worth it to me. I like the 24 x 30 inch size because it fills the doorway threshold space so I can't step over or around it, and a full tablet is only about 3/8 inch thick, so its not a tripping hazard.

You don't need the "frame" they might try to sell you. I buy my tablets once a year (or less if I'm not sewing much) from U-Line, and they ship right to my door.
Re: Front Edge and Shoulder Pads for Fantasy Fur Jacket
Have to admit, though I've been reading right along, I had no clue what this would like. Far out! Any chance for a photo of Kenneth wearing it? I'm fascinated by the shoulders and can see them (sans decorative stitching) in a heavy brocade with piping on a heavy faille cape, or maybe embroidered boiled wool on a plain boiled wool coat body.

Lapark: Bless your heart. That's all her necktie, or scarf. Look at the hem of the shirt. Have a great day!

Wow! Can someone please explain to me how to cut and construct this collar? Thanks!

WOW, the shoulder detail on Cate's dress is stunning. That would be so cool on a suit with long fitted sleeves. How about it, Kenneth King...how was this done? How would you do it with sleeves??? Any ideas?

I agree with dnjmama and others who questioned how to start and stop this stitch. This stitch's original use was to secure or protect the non-selvage edges of blankets. That is: things that have both sides visible and no fold or hem on the edges where you can hide thread ends, knots and lock stitches. Like the fleece muffler I wanted to make last year. Just the fleece and a nice decorative blanket stitch around the edge, right? Its in the UFO bin now because I couldn't figure out what to do when I'd used up one length of thread and needed to start another. How about some help with that please?

I'm with you, Helenahandbasket! We don't need hand sanitizer, we need gloves. I have spent the past year trying to make a pair that I like. Mr. Koch's advice is timely and inspiring. I hope to post pix of my results soon. By the way, does anyone know where I can still purchase the cotton felt-like material that the white gloves we wore "back in the day" were made from? And Nik-ki, could you please post info on the class Mr. Koch is giving? I will happily travel from Minneapolis to attend it.
