Re: Sew Simple

I really like the idea of these patterns. A quick skirt or jacket except if you were plus sizes. The patterns companies consistently miss the plus size market by underestimating our interest in sewing. I loved two of the jacket patterns but can not buy the pattern in my size. ARGHHH.

Re: New Butterick Patterns

I really liked the dress pattern but.......the pattern size only goes to size 22 pattern sizing. So I have run into my biggest two complants about sewing patterns in this article. The first is the sizing of patterns. I wear a ready made 20 - 22. In patterns I wear a 26. The second point is the lack of stylish patterns in the 'bigger sizes'.I am an intermediate sewer and when at a smaller size regularily used Vogue patterns. I find no patterns in fitted styles in patterns in the plus size sections of the pattern books.

Re: Here comes the DIY bride...

I made my daughter's wedding gown to save money (?) and give her what she dreamed of. It was silver silk and combined a Burda and a Simplicity pattern. The basic style was victorian. We had to dye lace to match the silver color. The reward was a huge hug and a "Thank you I couldn't have had the dress I wanted if you hadn't made it". I learned alot about fitting from one of her friends and got to play with making silk flowers etc. My sister's still are talking about it three years later. We also DIY'd almost everthing else for the wedding.
