I know how to sew, but there is always something new to learn, or a technique that has a different, or better, way of doing it. These Teach Yourself to Sew series are a wonderful way to learn and full of excellent information.
My ironing tips to use while sewing is to press seams both flat as sewn as well as open or to the side both on the wrong and right side as you sew, allow the seam to cool before removing from the ironing surface, and to use ironing tools such as a pressing ham for curved seams, a seam roll for long, narrow or small curved seams and a sleeve board for sleeves and pant legs. I hope to invest in additional ironing tools for tailoring such as a tailoring pressing board, a clapper to pound seams open, and a needle board for pressing piled fabrics.
Pressing is essential with sewing and a wonderful iron such as this Oliso Pro would be a dream to own and use!
I have been sewing since I was young and have learned a great deal about dressmaking from making mistakes. My advice to any new dressmaker out there would be to take the time to read through and try your best to understand all the directions. Start with a simple design in an easy fabric to work with with not a lot of details to worry about, then progress to more difficult patterns and fabrics from there. Do a trial run on scraps of fabric or inexpensive fabric of any technique that is unfamiliar. Also, take your time, don't rush, do fittings as you sew if needed, don't be afraid to make mistakes, ask questions at your local sewing store or do research from a book such as this one or online or ask someone who sews. Most of all, enjoy the experience!
I would LOVE to win this set from Kenneth D. King! We can always learn more about fitting no matter what your sewing level.
This book would be an amazing addition to my sewing and fashion designing library. I have been dreaming of designing and marketing my own fashion collection and this would be a great way to learn how to accomplish that and help to make my big dreams come true!
I would love to own this special addition of Threads magazine! Fitting is so important in sewing, and there is always something new to learn and a skill to master. I really want to conquer pant fitting and sewing This publication would come in very handy in my sewing world!
I have been wanting to take my sewing and tailoring skills to the next level and I always strive to learn more and more each day. Claire Shaeffer is a wonderful person and a highly influential person from which to learn and develop fine sewing and tailoring skills, and this book and DVD set is the perfect place to start.
I saw this magazine at the fabric store and thought it looked good and full of fun projects. It would be even more fun to win it!
What a wonderful way to learn about these two great designers and how they are similar. It looks like a beautiful and inspirational book to have in my collection!
What a great kit! I would love this as a child, and what a wonderful gift to give to teach a youngster to sew and design.
I took a fashion draping class at a sewing school, but had to borrow the book for the class as it is pricey. I absolutely loved the class, and would really like to drape more patterns into fashions. This book would be a great help with that dream!
I love fabric and would love to get to the level of designing my own fabric. I have a good friend who is a fabric designer and I envy her job and creativity. This book would be a great way to learn this craft.
I always seek to improve my sewing techniques, and what a welcome addition this set would be to my sewing library of books and DVD's.
I love new patterns, especially cool ones from Suede!
I love exposed zippers on the right type of dress, skirt or other garment. It gives a a little fashion edge to an otherwise simple garment. I hope to do this on a sewing project soon.
I love this color! I'll be looking out for it for apparel fabrics and home decor accent pieces. In some tones of orange, it looks great on deeper skin tones, like the woman in the photo. I made a lovely silk charmeuse dress in a color like this for my destination wedding trip and it was perfect with the tan I got in Mexico. I think it's a GREAT and fun color!!!
