Re: Enter Threads Storage Solution Giveaway Sponsored by

Oh BOY do I need to organize by sewing space! I waste way too much time digging through my fabric, notions, trims and patterns looking for what I need. I could really use an organizing system to help with my sewing space!!

Re: Book Giveaway: "Threads Sew Smarter, Better & Faster"

I keep my older iron ready to go to press out pattern pieces before I cut them out of the fabric. I keep the iron dry and on just the right temperature setting and just take it out for pressing my pattern pieces perfectly flat.

Re: Second Annual National Serger Month Celebration and Giveaway

I just got a new serger two months ago and so far, I have just sed it to make rolled hems on scarfs and to overlock seams to prevent fraying. I know there is a whole lot more my serger can do, I have just not taken the time to explore. I could use some motivation like this Serger Techniques DVD!

Re: Combine Topstitching and Binding for an Elegant Seam Finish

This is a beautiful seam finish! There is a good possibility I may use the technique someday, but not on something with as many seams to finish such as the Vogue 1239. I love the results though, so I will keep this idea in my back pocket!

Re: Enter the Teach Yourself to Sew Giveaway Sponsored by Janome

I know how to sew, but there is always something new to learn, or a technique that has a different, or better, way of doing it. These Teach Yourself to Sew series are a wonderful way to learn and full of excellent information.

Re: Enter to Win an Oliso Pro Smart Iron!

My ironing tips to use while sewing is to press seams both flat as sewn as well as open or to the side both on the wrong and right side as you sew, allow the seam to cool before removing from the ironing surface, and to use ironing tools such as a pressing ham for curved seams, a seam roll for long, narrow or small curved seams and a sleeve board for sleeves and pant legs. I hope to invest in additional ironing tools for tailoring such as a tailoring pressing board, a clapper to pound seams open, and a needle board for pressing piled fabrics.
Pressing is essential with sewing and a wonderful iron such as this Oliso Pro would be a dream to own and use!

Re: Book Giveaway: Dressmaking: 200 Q&A

I have been sewing since I was young and have learned a great deal about dressmaking from making mistakes. My advice to any new dressmaker out there would be to take the time to read through and try your best to understand all the directions. Start with a simple design in an easy fabric to work with with not a lot of details to worry about, then progress to more difficult patterns and fabrics from there. Do a trial run on scraps of fabric or inexpensive fabric of any technique that is unfamiliar. Also, take your time, don't rush, do fittings as you sew if needed, don't be afraid to make mistakes, ask questions at your local sewing store or do research from a book such as this one or online or ask someone who sews. Most of all, enjoy the experience!

Re: Tangerine Tango

I love this color! I'll be looking out for it for apparel fabrics and home decor accent pieces. In some tones of orange, it looks great on deeper skin tones, like the woman in the photo. I made a lovely silk charmeuse dress in a color like this for my destination wedding trip and it was perfect with the tan I got in Mexico. I think it's a GREAT and fun color!!!
