Re: What were you sewing in 1985?
I have a trajic story. In 1985 I had four children ranging from 1-9 years of age. I remember working on a skirt and top for Easter I believe in the basement where part of it was a play room and I had a space in the storage area where I had set up sewing machine. The phone rang and I ran upstairs to answer it, not talking, just answering as my kids were in the basement. When I returned I picked up the skirt portion I was working on and there a slash cut through the middle of the front panal.

Things have changed and I love sewing for my Grandkids now!!
Re: Whimsical Fairy Skirt
I have saved some of the stiff organza that comes with the flowers nowadays to make a foairy or princess skirt for my granddaughter. Yours is a great inspiration!

My sewing space started as part of the small guest room at the front of our house. Now we have grandkids so I have moved it to the basement bedroom, where I now share space with my clowning activity. I have a long IKEA table for cutting out but ends up too cluttered with stuff so I cut out on my kitchen table with a 35+ year old cardboard grid. I sew on top of an old teacher's desk which I love all the drawers for storage, but being short at 5'2.5" tall I have to set up my office chair very high to see properly with my bifocals. I have to reach to get my foot on the foot pedal. I share the desktop with my serger and sewing machine. I just push one back and the other forward to sew between them.
posted: 2:37 am on July 6thI would love a dress judy so I don't have to go over to my daughter's to have my skirts and dresses hemmed properly. I used to have one made of cardboard that disintigrated with use.
My material is stored in an old dresser but I do have a cupboard for some notions and other craft materials.
Maybe I need a new house and not just a properly fitted out sewing room!
