White Knit Skirt Pattern Replica
Happy with my new white knit skirt. Looked everywhere to buy one to replace the old worn out one with no success. decided to use the advice I read in Threads magazine to use ready to wear...
Debys Jacket Challenge Entry
This is my entry for the jacket challenge I constructed this using Simplicity pattern 2504. This is a jacket with an assymetrical front closure as well as an asymmetrical off center...

Re: Project Runway All Stars: "The Business of Fashion"
I wanted to add to my previous comment. I agree with some of the other poster's/commentors that Michael's work is very one dimensional. He sews a pretty dress, but they all are in the same vein. He reminds me of Anya in a sense. Both were one trick ponies.

I did agree with the decision that Mondo should win this week. This is a very ready to wear look garment. Technically though, it was a little too shapeless. Not many women who would buy ready to wear would look good in the shiftless dress. I think a drawstring or soft elastic placed at hip level would have been a great addition. That would give any wearer options and versatility. Austins coat was gorgeous but fabric choice proved fatal. The color was gorgeous. Michaels work is same old same old. RTW it was not. Kenley missed the mark. That dress could have been a win if she had simply been strategic with the placement of her fabric and kept the keyhole feature. It turned out to be a dress off the rack, not remarkable at all. I like her aesthetic but she does have tunnel vision and needs to translate her design to be more current.

I liked Kara's concept. It would have worked much better if she had lengthened the layers and used a very light fabric ie chiffon. It would have "floated" and much more clearly conveyed the impression of "gelato" a light pleasant cool treat. The layers connoted "layers" of flavor, so I get the idea. Aprils dress did not invoke a blueberry gelato concept and it suffered in the construction department. It could have been a very nice, but not runway winner contender garment even if she had been able to overcome the construction problems. Oh, Michael's dress, I agree with one of the other commenters that it resembled an overdone nightgown/dressing gown. Not that remarkable. I feel the judges responded to the impact it's volume conveyed.

So pretty. The rose tulle overlay is very delicate and feminine. Beautiful work.

I completely disagree with the judges...Anyas dress while, different and unique was anything but attractive and flattering. The pouf in the front does nothing the accentuate the models figure, the wings on the shoulder are LITERAL, which I though was a no no and are hideous to boot. Berts dress was elegant and look like something many women could actually wear. Kimberly's dress was very pretty and interesting. Kind of fed up with the lack of professional feedback and design themed direction from the judges. The framework is falling apart.

I love the idea of owning this treasure. We are never too old to learn and I still have a lot to learn. The idea of trying and mastering techniques I didn't even know existed is exciting and Threads is just the publication to help! Sounds like a good idea for an article...having a reader tackle techniques they have never tried before and then share their experience. Kind of like a technique review.

Where are the designers? Still? That said, I liked Laura's jumpsuit, Victor can tailor but can he really design? That horrible jumpsuit Anya constructed was waaaayyyy to voluminous and the print is not flattering. Just sayin.

Gorgeous. I disagree that the garment looks "simple". I think it has an intricate finely detailed look. Beautiful work.

Project Seamstress as a Threads magazine streaming video competition? YES, YES, YES. I would totally watch it. Challenges could include construction techniques, such as seam finishing, zippers, hems, fabric use, pattern drafting, alterations etc...the ideas are endless. Lets clog up the blogs with gentle polite demand/requests to improve on Project Runways failings...just thinkin. :)

Anthony Ryans was the most inspired, creative, yet wearable. Berts was sad, but the worst was Joshs. Olivers was a poor effort and looked truly like half the dress was unfinished but would have been a wearable but dull garment had it been more balanced and complete. I liked Viktors as it was interesting, creative, constructed with skill and the colors were pleasing and cohesive and also a wearable garment. I am not overly impressed with the desingers overall yet. Think by now the cream would have risen to the top but have yet to see it.
posted: 4:32 pm on September 2ndRe: Project Runway 9: "Off the Track"
Danielle's look was unimaginative but wearable as opposed to Anthony Ryan's which was unflattering and a sloppy unwearable hot mess. The color palette used by all the designers was bland, uninspired and dull. I felt Bert's design was the most flattering pulled together look. The challenge overall seemed contrived and I hope PR has better things to come, so far this season I am not impressed.

I liked Anthony Ryans design much better than anything else that was created. I do see how the winning design was something Nina would wear but felt it looked sloppy and looked as though the fit would be uncomfortable. I just want to go tug the hem...so far I am not impressed with what I see the designers making.

The trend I would love to see this fall is color! I noticed in my local fabric store the darker fall fabrics are making their way to the storefront. I am not convinced we have to wear deep, muted colors throughout the fall and winter. It really helps with our overall mood in the darker months to wear bright colors and I think they can be combined with the blacks grays and browns we wear so much of in colder weather. Just my thoughts.

Re: "Denise" I save the page on my computer and put it in a "sewing" file. You can further sub categorize by arranging articles by topic ie construction, design, tip, etc. Save it using Google chrome and it opens up as a web page and with your browser so if you want to search from there, have at it! Also, I used a similar technique on a sleeve cap for a little shrug I just completed. Gave the "no sleeve" some flair.
posted: 8:34 am on August 16thRe: Project Runway 9: My Pet Project
I like the birdseed dress as well. It was creative, resourceful, artful, inventive. The sherpa dress was a total snore and honestly not flattering. It was not unflattering just dull and lacking in style or originality. Also, the tissue dress was the worst! Fallene's dress although not that remarkable was not horrible. I agreed with the judges decision not to choose hers as the worst because she recognized it was not her best effort and was aware of her failing which demonstrates she can learn and maybe has more to show us. In short her decision not to defend her piece was a step in the right direction.

I think I have intermediate sewing skills but need to improve working with different fabrics and learning how to finish seams and hems with different techniques. I have been experimenting but a guide would sure be a handy quick reference to have on hand. I sometimes find myself working on a project and not sure how to proceed without some concrete instructions in front of me. Guess I need to take risks and just try. I would also love to improve my pattern adjustment "lack" of skills.

My favorite designer is me...I am not a real designer but have developed such a love for sewing after taking a long break. I have so many ideas and am trying new things since picking up Threads for the first time little over a year ago. It's a great inspiration to me to try techniques and learn things I never new. Recently I had to take my daughter's dress into a tailor for some alterations and enjoyed talking with the tailor about the work that needed to be done. I realized I knew from all the magazine articles etc., what options were available for altering her dress. Really neat. Thanks.

The best tip I ever learned was to prepare a muslin. This is a new concept given I haven't sewn many garments. I am in the process of learning how to make all the adjustments and have decided to keep at it until I get it right. I know this will be invaluable because my figure has changed dramatically in the last year due to age, and a thyroid problem. Being petite and full busted was a challenge to begin with so mastering a muslin/sloper is going to help tremendously.

What a shocker that Michael was voted out. His pieces were cohesive, interesting and very well made. Yes, using the same color palate for all three pieces was a misstep but one that could have been easily corrected and learned from. Gretchen on the other hand, can not correct the lack of originality, interest, or drama. Andy's work is very segmented in that I think it will appeal to a small group of consumers and he needs to develop an eye for appropriate. The green dress was beautiful but I think he used the shorter length in a way that made it feel as though he was trying too hard. Mondo's pieces were cohesive but not in a way that made them seem interesting. The mix of patterns is intriguing but he lacks making the pieces interesting as far as design and construction. The polka dot dress was dramatic and well made and beautiful but it did feel a bit too fun. I think a smaller polka dot would have given it a more elegant fee. Just my thoughts.

Military Lace deserved to win and Casanova got just what he needed to pull through, a kick in the pants. His blouse was a stunner, intricate and finely constructed. He needs more confidence in himself and courage to stand by his vision while considering and integrating the criticism of the judges and Tim. Team Luxe, namely Gretchen behaved horribly. I'm not sure what the totality of criteria was in determining who went home, but in the "military", leaders take responsibility for their troops. That said, Gretchen who bullied her way through that entire challenge should have packed her bags. The way she threw Michael C under the bus was disgusting. Maybe his work suffered as a result of being under the communistic rule of tyrant Gretchen.
