Needle Felted Swirly Jacket
A lined, fitted jacket with asymmetrical collar and front closing, princess seams and shoulder pads.
I purchased the swirly felted wool jacket fabric while on vacation in Innsbruck, Austria a few years ago. I saw the fabric in the store window after the store had closed and couldn’t wait to go back the next day to purchase some. Searching for the perfect fabric for the collar took a few years and another vacation. I found the fake fur collar fabric in England last year. Finally, I could finish the jacket!
The felted wool fabric was very easy to work with and pressed wonderfully. The fur collar caused a few sneezing fits from the fluff, but overall, was very simple to sew. I used two layers of hair canvas in the upper collar to help it stand up.
The buttons are made by layering 4 different buttons on top of each other. The gray base of each button is a piece of stone followed by a black plastic button, with a white button on top of that, finished off with a smaller black button on the very top. The button loops are made from elastic cord loops sewn into the jacket front seam.
Since the fabric on the outside of the jacket is so dramatic, I decided to use a plain white lining to finish off the inside. I love this jacket and can’t wait for the weather to get cold so I can wear it!
