Emerald Prom Dress

My daughter gave me free reign (for the most part) with her dress for Jr. Prom (she figures next year she will get picky). Her perameters were it had to be green and she would prefer a retro feel. Enter Threads Magazine Issue number 159. I used the techniques from 2 articles. Couture Construction and Artistry by the strip. The dress is made from dupioni silk, it is underlined in a silk organza that is a multi colored plaid. The skirt portion is french seamed. Because I was so excited about the fashion fabrics I picked up in the garment district of LA, I forgot to get lining. Locally silk was not an option, so I bought a cream colored Rayon I dyed green to go with the exterior (it mostly goes). The tube detail is made of the silk organza material and is attached by seed beads. I inserted 3/4 inch horsehair in the hem to give it more shape. A fabric covered belt and buckle to complete the look. She loved the result.

Your daughter looks like she could have been the "best" dressed at the prom. I say "best" dressed, because mom put the time and effort into creating this beautiful dress for her. Mom, be thankful that Threads Magazine is the very best there is offered for other occasions, but especially for your little girl's prom dress. She looks absolutely stunning. Congratulations to both of you and I hope your daughter enjoyed herself. There isn't any dress off the rack that can look the same as what mom's hard work produced.

Stunning and so original. I bet she stood out wonderfully from among the crowd at the prom.
