Shaheen inspired dress

Simplicity 2217 bodice and self drafted skirt

My inspiration was this vintage Alfred Shaheen fabric remnant I found in a little fabric store in Morehead City, NC.  I only had about 2 yards and I wanted to stay true to the Shaheen dress style.  Knowing that a slim skirt is not the best look for me, I opted for a gathered skirt that is fully lined and only gathered on the sides in order to reduce bulk in the front and in the back.  I really wanted to do a circle skirt but I did not have enough fabric.  The bodice is from Simplicity 2217.  I would not have been comfortable in a bombshell style bodice, I like a little more coverage.
