Paint Cloth Jacket

Front of jacket

I made this jacket several years ago. I saw this material – cotton

polyester – in a fabric store. It reminded me of a painter’s drop cloth

but the colors appealed to me and I bought it.

I decided to make myself a jacket using a store bought jacket as a pattern. I felt that the material needed embellishments and now was the opportunity to use the fancy stitches on my sewing machine, which I had never used.

I made an inner lining for the jacket using a heavier material for warmth and then lined it with a coordinating cotton material. I used a faux suede in a contrasting color for the trimming on the neckline, sleeves and pockets and used buttons in a coordinating color.

I enjoy wearing this jacket and get lots of compliments.
