I wanted to make a classic costume, one that would be a favorite for dress up and play. Where the Wild things are is a favorite book for us, and Max’s wolf costume seemed like a perfect fit for Lilly’s wild side! I used Simplicity 2506 (Toddler Animal Costumes) but made lots and lots of changes- click on the link below to see details from my blog. It is fully lined, so it could also be cozy to sleep in on winter nights. The tail is made from thick fake racoon-y fur and is removable for washing. The feet also can be worn by themselves, or attached to the costume. The claws for her hands velcro up and out of the way, and the crown can attach to the hood or be worn by itself. It zips up the front, but has oversized buttons just for show. The crown is gold brocade with dragonflies on it, lightly stuffed and then “quilted” with fur trim hand sewn onto the base. The whiskers are strands from a broom, knotted and sewn into the seam. It was totally fun to make, but it is even more fun to see her enjoying it!
